Toddler-Friendly Beaches

Sydney is packed with calm, sheltered swimming spots that are perfect for little splashers, and you don't need to brave big surf to enjoy a water day with toddlers.

Favourites like Greenwich Baths, Northbridge Baths and Parsley Bay offer enclosed, netted swimming areas with gentle, shallow water and handy facilities, making them ideal for first paddles and wobbly walkers.

Over on the Northern Beaches, Little Manly Cove is a go-to for families thanks to its protected harbour setting, grassy picnic space and calm conditions. Balmoral Beach and Clontarf Beach are recommended for their sheltered waters, sandy shores, and netted baths, which are especially safe for toddlers.

In the south, Darook Park Beach in Cronulla is a local favourite for its shallow, still water and relaxed vibe, great for a low-key paddle.

Free Water Play Parks

When the weather warms up, Sydney's free water play spots are tiny-kid gold.

Toddlers and preschoolers can splash, stomp, paddle and squeal their way through fountains, sprinklers, shallow streams and splash pads at family favourites like Darling Quarter, Blaxland Riverside Park, Pirrama Park, Steel Park, Ian Potter Children's WILD PLAY Garden, Putney Park, Deerbush Park, and Greenacre Splash Park, just to name a few!

Most have playgrounds right beside the water, so you can stretch a quick splash into a full morning of play, snacks and very soggy hats. For more fun locations, check out our list of Sydney's top Free Water Parks.
