Movie Playgrounds are a Thing & Here are the Best Ones Near You!

Move over indoor playgrounds; movie playgrounds are the hottest indoor attractions for kids and parents!

If you've ever taken your little ones to the movies, you know what a stressful nightmare it can be. To help out anxious parents across the nation, movie cinemas introduced Mums and Bubs Sessions, where parents can bring their bubs to a kid-friendly movie surrounded by other cranky, crying and nappy-full babies so they wouldn't feel judged. And now, something even more suited to families with little ones is making school holidays and rainy days with kids that much more enjoyable!

Introducing Movie Playgrounds

Event Junior is a delightful concept by Event Cinemas and is a family-friendly experience that's not unlike drive-in movies from the 80s and 90s - remember those? These playground-come-movie-cinemas are a lot fancier than drive-in theatres and the perfect spot to take the kids during the school holidays or on those pesky rainy days.

Event Junior features an in-cinema playground complete with a slide, netted climbing gym, digital interactive games and other play equipment for children eight years and under.

These super-cool movie playgrounds are only available at Macquarie Centre and Shellharbour but will hopefully be rolled out in more cinemas across Australia. 

For those keen to get in on the cinematic action, there are three ways you and the kids can make the most of Event Junior:

• Playtime-only sessions - for $5 per child two years and over (includes coffee or water for mum or dad)
• Playtime sessions with a movie - 30 minutes of playtime plus a family-friendly movie for regular ticket price plus $5 per child
• Movie-only sessions - movie screening with 10-minute playtime intermission

Movie Playground Locations

There are currently two locations to enjoy the benefits of a movie playground:

Event Cinemas Macquarie -  Corner Of Herring Rd and Waterloo Rd, Macquarie Park

Event Cinemas Shellharbour - 4 Memorial Dr, Shellharbour City Centre
