City of Sydney Christmas Celebrations

Sydney is turning up the Christmas sparkle for 2026, and families can enjoy plenty of festive magic for FREE!

The City of Sydney's Christmas celebrations kick off on 26 November with Santa's spectacular sleigh ride through the CBD, followed by the lighting of the enormous Martin Place Christmas tree and fireworks. Throughout the festive season, families can wander beneath 80,000 twinkling lights at Pitt Street Mall's Canopy of Light, watch the dazzling Martin Place Christmas tree light displays and explore the festive Martin Place Christmas Markets. With so much Christmas cheer across the city, it's the perfect excuse for a family night out!

Where: Various locations across Sydney, including Martin Place, Turruwul Park in Rosebery, Pirrama Park in Pyrmont and Alexandria Park

Christmas at Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour is getting its 2026 Christmas glow-up, with plenty of FREE festive fun for families!

The waterfront will sparkle with Christmas decorations, free family activities and the return of the spectacular floating Christmas tree at Cockle Bay. Visit after dark to see the harbour light up and squeeze in a few festive family snaps while you're there.

Camden Christmas Festival

Camden is kicking off the silly season with a big, free Christmas celebration!

Argyle Street will be transformed into a festive wonderland packed with Christmas markets, family-friendly activities and amusement rides. Keep an eye out for Santa's grand appearance, and don't miss the lighting of the Camden Community Christmas Tree as the evening unfolds.

Light Up Windsor Street Fair

Windsor is turning up the Christmas cheer with the return of Light Up Windsor 2026!

The free festive street party will take over Windsor Mall and George Street with more than 50 Christmas market stalls, delicious street food, live entertainment and plenty for the kids. Little ones can enjoy a snow zone, Christmas crafts, face painting and visits from Santa, Mrs Claus and even real reindeer! The evening wraps up with the lighting of Windsor's giant Christmas tree at 9 pm.

The free Philippines Christmas Festival is taking over Tumbalong Park for two days of festive fun, with colourful parades, traditional Filipino food, cultural displays and plenty of activities for kids. Bring your appetite because the delicious Filipino treats alone are worth the visit!

Double Bay Christmas Festival

Double Bay is swapping its usual harbourside sophistication for a big Christmas celebration, and the kids are invited!

Taking over Steyne Park for one day only, the Double Bay Christmas Festival 2026 will feature a sprawling Christmas market curated by Cambridge Markets, with stalls packed with handmade gifts and tempting festive treats. Little ones can make a beeline for the carnival rides while parents browse the market stalls or grab something delicious from the international food vendors. Bring a picnic rug and stick around after sunset for a spectacular fireworks display over Double Bay.

Santa Parade at Macquarie Centre

Santa is making a grand entrance at Macquarie Centre, bringing a whole parade of Christmas cheer!

On Sunday 1 November, families can catch a dazzling festive procession featuring 26 performers, including Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Mrs Claus, glittering elves, dancers, skaters and towering stilt walkers. Little ones can wave to their favourite Christmas characters, catch a candy cane lolly as the parade passes and soak up the excitement as Santa arrives for the festive season. The Christmas parade kicks off on Level 4 at 11 am, so get there early to grab a good viewing spot!

Santa's Arrival at Castle Towers

Santa is arriving at Castle Towers in spectacular style this November, and the whole family is invited to join the celebration!

On Sunday 1 November, a lively 20-piece marching band will lead a festive parade through the centre, with Santa, Mrs Claus, Frosty the Snowman and plenty of Christmas friends joining the fun. After the parade, little ones can meet their favourite festive characters and enjoy entertainment throughout the day, including performances from Rockette Snowflakes and Tapping Elves. Plus, Santa will be settling into his Christmas photo spot from midday, ready to hear those all-important Christmas wish lists!

Bring the kids along to Main Street to welcome the man in red, with festive entertainment and plenty of Christmas cheer as the countdown to the big day begins. It's a lovely way to get little believers excited for Christmas!

Santa's taking Christmas to new heights this year, literally!

The spectacular Canopy of Light returns with 80,000 twinkling lights and 10 giant illuminated stars suspended above the shopping strip. This year's display introduces changing colours, making an evening wander through the city even more magical. It's FREE, gorgeous after dark and perfect for getting little ones into the Christmas spirit.

For even more Christmas lights in the CBD, walk just a few hundred metres to the nearby Martin Place Christmas Tree.

Christmas at St Mary's Cathedral

One of our favourite Christmas events in Sydney, Christmas at St Mary's Cathedral is a much-loved free lights show that transforms the forecourt of St Mary's Cathedral into a lively Christmas village each evening from 16 to 25 December 2026 (5.30-10.30 pm).

During these nine nights, families and visitors can wander through market stalls offering food, drinks and Christmas gifts, enjoy live entertainment from local performers and community choirs, and watch roaming musicians and entertainers bring seasonal cheer to the crowd. As night falls, the cathedral's iconic facade becomes the canvas for a spectacular light show with immersive visuals telling classic Christmas stories and highlighting themes of hope, joy and the true meaning of the season.

Illuminate The Hills

The Hills Shire is set to sparkle once again as The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Rose Garden gets decked out with thousands of twinkly lights for the annual Illuminate The Hills festival.

The 2026-2027 instalment of the much-loved festival kicks off on 29 November with carols, food trucks, ice creams, a sausage sizzle, Christmas markets, music and more. The magical Christmas installations will light up the rose garden each night from 7.30-10.30 pm until 2 January 2027.

Christmas Lights Spectacular at Hunter Valley Gardens

Hunter Valley Gardens is going all out for Christmas 2026, with millions of twinkling lights turning the sprawling gardens into an after-dark wonderland!

This year's Christmas Lights Spectacular introduces the enchanting Celestial Snowfields, where glowing constellations and icy blue lights create a dreamy winter landscape, plus Gingerbread Way, complete with oversized candy canes and illuminated sweet treats. Kids can also explore an expanded Planes, Trains and Automobiles display, where even the reindeer have taken to skiing!

Once you've wandered through the sparkling displays, hop aboard the Ferris wheel for a bird's-eye view or squeeze in a spin on the teacups. With so much to explore, this one's worth the trip to the Hunter Valley.
