Its long history has helped secure accommodation in locations that make weekend getaways feel easy, whether you're chasing bushland, beaches, or crisp mountain air, without the usual price tag of a family hotel stay.

Camping Holidays
Good old-fashioned camping can be the ultimate family bonding experience and weekend getaway in NSW. What could be better than sharing campfire stories beneath a starry sky in the beautiful fresh air?
Check out the best family camping spots around Sydney, including Cockatoo Island and Royal National Park, or why not go all out on a gorgeous glamping holiday in Bathurst, Jervis Bay, or even at Taronga Zoo? And for those who can't get enough of the great outdoors, there are plenty of picturesque beach camping spots in NSW to indulge your family of water babies.
Family Farm Stays
For families who want their weekend to smell like fresh hay instead of city traffic, a farm stay is hard to beat.
Kookaburra Farmstay is on the Tomaree Peninsula near Port Stephens, about two and a half hours from the Sydney CBD, and it's a family-run property where daily animal feeding, egg collecting and even cow milking are all part of the stay. Closer to the city, Calmsley Hill City Farm is only 45-50 minutes away and even offers camping, making it an easy overnight option for families who don't want to spend the whole weekend in the car. Further afield, Morvern Valley Farm Stay in the Southern Highlands puts kids face to face with horses, alpacas, goats and mini ponies, with private chicken pens at each cottage so egg collecting becomes part of the morning routine. Wherever you land, expect muddy boots, early starts and kids who sleep the whole way home.
