NSW Family Sunday Drive: We're Off To Kiama!

By: Phoebe Ackland, ellaslist

We're always on the lookout for great family-friendly destinations within driving distance of Sydney. A little reprieve from our often overwhelming city and some connection time with our family away from screens and distractions is just what the doctor ordered. So, we're off to Kiama!

Just a 1 hour and 50-minute drive from Sydney, Kiama is a gorgeous seaside destination on the south coast of NSW that's big on family fun. Here are our top picks for things to see and do on your adventure:

1. Kiama Blowhole

No doubt the attraction that springs to mind when you think of Kiama. This blowhole is the largest in the world! From the safe distance of the viewing platform, check out the spectacular plumes of water shooting skyward, then enjoy some lunch at the nearby picnic areas or have a wade in the rock pool in the warmer weather.

2. Kiama Coast Walk

A pathway hugging 22km of sparkling coastline. It begins at Minnamurra, will take you past headlands, rivers, beaches, the town centre, the Blowhole, Little Blowhole, beaches, bays, finishing at Werri Beach. A great way to see all the natural beauty of Kiama.

3. Kiama Farmer's Market

Held every Wednesday at Surf Beach, these markets are held from 2-5pm in the winter and 3-6pm in the Summer, unlike most early-morning markets. Shop with picturesque views in front of you, with the opening of the markets signalled each week by the ringing of the bell. You'll find fruits, vegetables, oysters, local beef, honey, eggs, milk, sourdough, and lots more.
