What You Need to Know about Victoria’s New Statewide Dining & Entertainment Cashback Scheme

If you like eating at cafes and restaurants and enjoying days out (and let’s face it, who doesn’t), you will want to listen up!

The Victorian Government has just released its latest Dining and Entertainment Program cashback scheme, meaning participants can reclaim 25 per cent on their restaurant, cafe, bar and entertainment bills.

Here’s what you need to know.

Where to Claim

Eating out with friends and family just got cheaper across Victoria thanks to the reinvigoration of the state’s Dining & Entertainment Program—Eat. Play. Cashback. 

To qualify for a 25 per cent rebate of up to $125 spent in cafes, bars and restaurants, patrons must spend at least $40 to qualify, and food must be ordered.

Delivery providers like UberEats, Providoor, MenuLog and DoorDash are not included in the program. Eligible businesses include cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, food courts, breweries, wineries, fast-food outlets and cinemas.

The entertainment portion of the scheme means that the same rules apply to entertainment-based businesses like festivals, cinemas, museums, galleries, zoos, theme parks and exhibitions.

“Whether it’s booking a table for lunch or heading to a live music event, this cashback program puts money back into people’s pockets and supports hardworking businesses,” says Ben Carroll, Minister for Industry Support and Recovery.

“This program also helps build business and consumer confidence while supporting jobs and boosting the state’s economy.”

The Nitty Gritty

Available on a first-come, first serve basis, the $25 million program will end on December 16 2022, or until the funds are depleted—whichever comes first.

To claim cashback, Victorians can visit the Business Victoria website, where they must upload an itemised receipt and include details like amount, purchase date and type of experience. Once approved, the cashback will be deposited into your bank account within five working days.
