The People Have Spoken: Product of the Year Award Winners Revealed
It's the little red and white logo that can take the guesswork out of finding some of the best tried and tested products in the country! From curry to coffee pods and monk fruit to immune shots, 9, 000 Aussie shoppers have spoken and the 2022 Product of the Year winners have been crowned.
Now in its 13th year down under, the world’s largest consumer-based awards program asks 5000 local consumers to vote on their favourite supermarket products via leading research company, Nielsen. Prior to being submitted for the final vote, Product of the Year contenders undergo a rigorous testing process by an expert panel of judges, who test the products for quality, credibility, and innovation.
This year’s winners stretch across a range of categories and brands from grocery stalwarts like Coles and Woolworths to Koala mattresses and sofa beds! With a nod to product innovation, this year’s award winners reflect a shift toward convenience products following the spate of lockdowns across the country.
Unsurprisingly, many of the award-winning products were from the ready-made food or comfort product categories - easy snacks, ready-to-eat products, or frozen meals scooped up almost a third of the awards, while affordable luxury and indulgence items including mattresses, desserts, and skincare products were equally popular.
“The ongoing and unexpected restrictions have no doubt made Australian household consumption habits shift considerably, " Product of the Year Director, Sarah Connelly says, "now we’re seeing people having to work from home more, manage more people in their household and even in many instances, home-school children, which is leaving the average Aussie short on time and capacity to prepare lavish meals. Instead, we are seeing the move towards easy, simple and pre-made meals and snacks, that save people time and leave them with one less thing to worry about in their day-to-day lives."
“In addition, we have unsurprisingly seen a range of wider homewares and lifestyle products make the winner’s list for 2022, including two Koala furniture products (a mattress and sofa bed), as well as some more lifestyle products including skin products from The Balnea Body Company.”
This year Coles again led the field with a record number of wins, scooping up a whopping 11 awards across a range of products and exclusive brands. Woolworths took home six awards and smaller companies like Lakanto’s Monkfruit Sweetener products and Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic G&T also made the cut this year.
Product of the Year category winners undergo a rigorous testing process by a panel of expert judges based on quality, credibility, and innovation. The resulting product finalists are reviewed and voted on by 5,000 Australians, so shoppers can rest assured they are getting the best products when shopping.
Some of the 2022 Product of the Year Awards winners to look out for in the aisles are Coles Express Urban Coffee, Coles Ultimate 40% Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies, Dilmah Tea Organic Range, Old El Paso Tortilla Pockets, Nando’s Bag & Bake, Woolworths Little One's Ultra Dry Nappies and the Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glow.
Among the alternative, health-conscious folk, Original Bamboo Razor, Plantry Plant-Based Meals and Plantitude Coconut Natural all took out top honours and big-ticket items on the list this year include Koala's The Calm As Mattress and Cushy Sofa Bed.
