It's the little red and white logo that can can take the guesswork out of finding some of the best tried and tested products in the country! From curry to coffee pods and monk fruit to immune shots, 9, 000 Aussie shoppers have spoken and the 2021 Product of the Year winners have been crowned.

Now in its 12th year down under, the world’s largest consumer-based awards program asks local consumers to vote on their favourite supermarket products via leading leading research company, Nielsen. Prior to being submitted for final vote, Product of the Year contenders undergo a rigorous testing process by an expert panel of judges, who test the products for quality, credibility, and innovation.

This year’s winners stretch across a range of categories and well-known brands including Gillette, Coles, 7/11, Dilmah and Nescafe. With a nod to product innovation, this year’s award winners reflects a shift toward healthier, plant-based products, with a range of meat free, vegan or natural health food alternatives taking out the esteemed prize.

With 8 out of 29 winners sitting amongst the ‘vegetarian/vegan’ and ‘health food’ categories, Product of the Year Director, Sarah Connelly says, “This is the first time in our Product of the Year Awards history that we’ve had this many meat-alternative and vegan products participate and successfully win an award, especially from surprising new brands such as 7-11 and V2 foods. This year we are also seeing our first ever Alcohol-Free alternatives category, with Lyre’s taking out the top spot for their non-alcohol spirits range.”

“COVID-19 definitely impacted all areas of our lives, with shopping experiences taking a massive hit in the early stages of the pandemic, but we have been truly impressed to see the way brands have adapted and expanded their offerings to give consumers more options across a wide range of categories to suit all tastes and lifestyles."

Product of the Year have also added a new award category this year called Ones to Watch showcasing smaller companies who may not be able to enter the main awards program due to their infancy.

“We are very honoured to be able to showcase these winners for 2021 and  continue to partner with smaller businesses across Australia to offer a platform to promote their brands during these uncertain times.” Ms Connelly added.
