The room is dark, I cradle myself in the foetal position and a thousand thoughts race through my mind as I try hard to focus on just one, “thank god the school holidays are nearly over”! Thats right folks, those tears streaming down my face are of pure joy, suddenly that bounce in my step has returned and just as my kids had a sleep countdown for Santa, my own magnificent countdown has begun.  Please don’t get me wrong, I love the school holidays but unless you have booked some time away with the family, the second half of the Christmas break seems to drag-on. Most of the vacation clubs started and finished during the very first week of holidays and by-now you’ve seen every film at the movies, visited every zoo, park and beach imaginable and the kids are still hyper-charged with energy going stir-crazy at home, being a parent has finally become a chore! Well ellaslist faithfuls, head over to Bankstown Sports where school holidays fun, has just started!

What’s On?

I have recently rediscovered Bankstown Sports. The last time I visited was easily 15 (or more) years ago and boy, have things changed! Whether you are looking at catching a family concert or show, cooling down with gelato and wandering the beautiful streetscape of ‘old Italy’, let kids go wild in Monkey Mania or parents needing a night-off from cooking, you are spoilt for choice here! But still if this isn’t enough, I highly recommend that you checkout the exciting school holiday program Bankstown Sports has on offer for you, and there is something for everyone: Cake it up Classes, Kids Bingo, Science and Slime Workshops, Make your own Churros, just to name a few.

LEGO Fun

I couldn’t wait to get-in on this action! I knew my 7 year old master LEGO builder would love the ‘Young Engineers LEGO’ workshop. This program covered some of the basics of Physics, Maths and mechanical engineering as they brought to life a motorised LEGO Bricks model. My son had no idea that he was learning a wealth of knowledge. This workshop went for an 1.5 hr and seriously it flew-by. What I enjoyed most about this was how it included children from a range of ages (5 to 12 years), all different learning abilities and all levels of creativity.

A Keepsake from the School Holidays

I knew instantly that my 5 and 4 year old would go wild for plaster painting. I enjoyed watching my kids choose something that was special to them from the huge range of pieces on display (prices start from $13 and include all materials) and go absolutely nuts with paint and glitter as they decorated to their hearts content and the whole time knowing, that I didn’t have to clean-up. Happy days!

Pizza? Yes, Please

But what got all 3 of my kids hearts Aflutter was the ‘Kids Pizza Making’ class. Amongst the beautiful surrounds of La Piazza, children were given aprons and all the materials and ingredients needed to make a pizza the old-school way, from scratch! This was certainly an invaluable experience for my kids, where they were able to be apart of the entire pizza making process from beginning to end, given tips on techniques on how to make the perfect pizza and yes, they got to eat their creations.  My children had a wonderful time at Bankstown Sports. We made some new friends, shared new experiences and walked-away excited about our future adventures next school holidays at Bankstown Sports.
