Mount Druitt Pool Unveils An Epic $40.6M All-Season Upgrade
- Family

Whether it’s teaching the kids to swim or a handy spot for little ones to burn off all that energy, the beloved Mount Druitt Swimming Centre has always been a favourite destination for the whole family.
However, with this seasonal weather venue closing annually for the winter season (those outdoor pools get mighty chilly), it can leave Western Sydneysiders at a loss for where to take their kids to enjoy some splash time.
Luckily, good news is at hand! Blacktown City Council have just unveiled an exciting proposed $40.6 million redevelopment that will transform Mount Druitt Swimming Centre into an easily accessible and enjoyable venue all year round.
Mount Druitt Pool Unveils An Epic $40.6M All-Season Upgrade
With the much-loved Mount Druitt Swimming Centre – which is managed and maintained by Blacktown City Council - celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, it is set to undertake its biggest upgrade in its history.
The proposal sees plans for a new 25-metre indoor learn-to swim pool, refurbishment of the current outdoor pool and a new kiosk, amongst other exciting updates to the venue.
According to Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting, this redevelopment is essential for ensuring the pool continues to meet the needs of the growing community, including the important skill of teaching children and adults to swim.
“Blacktown City has the biggest population of any council in NSW and is growing rapidly, so it’s imperative we provide quality facilities,” he said.
“Swimming is a life skill and there will be more opportunities to learn and practise with these wide-ranging plans.”
Community Consultation
Determined to make sure the needs of the community are met, Blacktown City Council has turned to pool users and others to help shape the draft designs.
Thanks to feedback from drop-in sessions, online surveys, council event stalls and input from the Mount Druitt Pool Action Group, the community has been given a voice to ensure the modernisation of this much-loved and utilisedå venue ticks all the right boxes.
“The Mount Druitt Pool Action Group is happy to see that Council has listened to the community and the future of the Mount Druitt Swimming Centre has been secured,” said member Sandra McAndrew.
“The new complex will be of great benefit to the local community for recreation, swimming lessons and for the many schools that use Mount Druitt Swimming Centre.”
The upgrade is expected to begin in 2026 and is estimated to take about 18 months.
