The Mount Druitt Pavilion and Public Domain is a vibrant and modern community space in Western Sydney.

The previous Mount Druitt town centre was the first entirely new town centre built in New South Wales in the 1970s and the recent upgrades are a game-changer! In 2023, Dawson Mall was completely reimagined into a lively hub for events, play and connection.

The pot of gold (in our opinion) has to be the Mount Druitt Pavilion, which features a large, organically shaped shade canopy. This unique structure is wrapped in over 20 kilometres of brightly coloured, hand-wound rope around interconnected curved steel tubing. We just love the whimsical, rainbow-like colours and patterns of the rope that are a direct reference and homage to the vibrant screen-printed artwork of the Garage Graphix Community Art Inc., a local art workshop active in Mount Druitt during the 1980s and 90s.

So much thought has been put into this design, connecting the modern structure to the area's rich social and creative history.

This Multimillion-Dollar Community Upgrade In Western Sydney Is An Award-Winner

Blacktown City Council completed a multimillion-dollar upgrade of Dawson Mall, funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund. The project has transformed the area into an uplifting and welcoming place for locals.

Highlights of the Mount Druitt Pavilion and Public Domain include:

• A colourful, rainbow-shaped shade canopy
• A permanent stage for performances and events
• An expanded playground designed for hours of fun
• Upgraded lighting for improved safety and visibility
• Additional seating, including group tables and individual spots for relaxation
• A ping pong table for friendly games and recreation

A Revitalised Town Centre

Located next to the Mount Druitt Hub, Dawson Mall has been transformed into a dynamic and accessible space boasting creative design elements that reflect the cultural and artistic identity of the area. With lush landscaping, shady spots, and cool new seating areas, it’s the perfect place to meet friends, enjoy the outdoors, or simply soak in the lively atmosphere.

And let's not forget about the unique design! The vibrant rope shade structure winding through the town square stands out as the hero of the pavilion, providing a funky shade canopy and a burst of colour.

It’s not just locals raving about the transformation - the Mount Druitt Pavilion is now an award-winner! Designed by CHROFI and JMD Design, this incredible development has taken home Gold at the 2025 Better Futures World Design Awards and the Better Futures Gov Design Awards. Talk about world-class!

A Bright Future for Mount Druitt

With these upgrades, the Mount Druitt Pavilion and Public Domain has become a true asset for Western Sydney providing a modern and inclusive space for families, social gatherings, and public events.
