Mount Druitt Library Set for $26.8M Kid-Friendly Upgrade

Blacktown City Council have revealed the details of the exciting $26.8 million expansion to the beloved Mount Druitt Library and Community Hub - and it’s enough to make every local parent sigh in relief at the promise of fun, free and wet-weather-friendly entertainment.

Plans see a new two-story wing adjacent to the main building being constructed, with a brand spanking new children’s library and play area.

Not only that, the development will also see open-plan study spaces including reading areas, along with group study rooms (great for the teens come exam time).

There will also be 10 meeting rooms and five activity rooms, making Mount Druitt Library and Community Hub a one-stop spot, whether you’re looking for rainy day entertainment for the kids or a peaceful place to work for adults.

Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting expressed his excitement at how this expansion is set to reinvigorate the way the community uses and enjoys communal spaces.

“The Mount Druitt Library and Community Hub is just the beginning in a transformation that will change how people think about the town centre,” he said.

“There is a growing community here crying out for new places to work, rest and play, and I am looking forward to providing for them.”

As the first of three exciting projects to completely transform the area with a planned major upgrade for Mount Druitt Swimming Centre and a new First Nations Cultural Hub, residents will be treated to fabulous new facilities aimed at fostering fitness, culture and community ties.

Worried about how all the changes are going to affect traffic? Don’t be – the council is one step ahead, with plans to improve pedestrian and vehicle access, with the focus on keeping the peaceful parklands feel locals love.

Blacktown City Council is delivering the project, funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) program.

Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with completion predicted for late 2027.
