Mums deserve to let their hair down as they kick off the Mother’s Day weekend. The Blacktown Festival Comedy Night is on Friday 9 May and guarantees a night of belly laughs, as part of the Blacktown City Festival program.
Headlined by seasoned comedian Simon Kennedy and supported by Aditya Gautam, Ben Darsow, Lizzy Hoo, Dilruk Jayasinha (the hilarious Ash from ABC TV series Utopia) and Danielle Walker. At just $10 a ticket, this is a night worth booking a babysitter for.

Where to Take Mum for Lunch in Blacktown
Royal Cricketers Arms

Look no further than the Royal Cricketers Arms for a good old-fashioned roast dinner for Mother’s Day. Every Sunday, the English-style pub serves up a classic roast with all the trimmings, including roasted pumpkin, baby potatoes, garden vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
Their Roast of the Day costs $30, and there are plenty of other pub staples to choose from, including a special menu for “small humans”.

Set mum’s senses alight at CHU Restaurant by China Doll in West HQ. From Friday 9 May to Sunday 11 May, the Asian fusion restaurant will offer two banquet menus to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Choose from the $89pp menu featuring Appellation oysters, prawn dumplings, Shandong sesame chicken, and much more. Or elevate the day with the $109pp menu with fresh sashimi, Thai Barramundi, and beef Penang curry and more. Bookings essential.

The Marsden Brewhouse

You know what Mum really wants? To eat her meal in peace, and she can do just that at the Marsden Brewhouse while the kids enjoy the awesome gated playground. This Mother’s Day, the Marsden is doing a special buffet lunch curated by their Head Chef, plus a complimentary glass of Prosecco, and live music to keep the vibes up. The kids will be well and truly occupied with free face painting, and there’s a wine hamper giveaway for one lucky mum. Bookings essential.

A Roarsome Day Out at Sydney Zoo

For the wildlife-loving mum, swing into the open-plan surrounds of Sydney Zoo for a day of exploring. Located in Bungarribee, Sydney Zoo is the only combined zoo and aquarium in NSW, and boasts the largest Reptile and Nocturnal House in the world.
There may even be some unique animal encounters for Mum if you check the schedule in advance. The zoo is perfect for exploring on foot, with plenty of room to see the animals in their natural environment.
Oh, and did you know that three adorable quokkas have officially moved into Sydney Zoo? Known worldwide as “the happiest animals in the world,” mum might be just as happy after seeing these cuties up close.

Take a Picnic to Bungarribee Park

For a relaxed Mother’s Day in the sunshine, take the family to the awesome adventure playground and parkland, Bungarribee Park. It’s an expansive 200-hectare park featuring wide-open spaces and bike trails, a dog park and one of our favourite Sydney playgrounds. This beauty has a 14-metre high climbing tower, thrilling slides, a flying fox, swings and water play equipment. If you’re not in the mood for packing a picnic, check out Harvey's Social - a family and pet-friendly cafe to enjoy a casual meal.

Go for a Nature Walk at Nurragingy Reserve

We love the new, inclusive playspace at Nurragingy Reserve. Also known as Wawai Ngurra Inclusive Adventure Playspace, the new playground was designed in collaboration with Variety - the Children’s Charity.
Take mum on a bushwalk through the sprawling natural bushland reserve with a picturesque lake, several playgrounds, a miniature railway, water play, the Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Gardens, and plenty of beautiful spots for a picnic or BBQ.

Take a Ride Through The Lakes Edge Park at The Ponds

Go on a family adventure and explore the scenic Lakes Edge Park at The Ponds. It's a pretty spot for a barbecue lunch or picnic by the water. Enjoy a family walk or bike ride along the track around the lake and take a break on the pier to say hello to the ducks.
The kids will no doubt want to stop you at the huge playground beside the lake, which boasts a fence partially around the play equipment, as well as a shade sail. The playground is suitable for all ages, with plenty of fun for little ones and lots of green surrounding green space for running around and playing.

Enjoy Gelato at Gelatissimo West HQ

After a day of activities or lunch, or after anything really, Mum deserves a scoop or two of gelato! Mum might even need a take-home back for later, it is her day after all…
