According to the kids, it's the BEST! Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST), which opened in late 2023, has quickly become one of the most exciting recreation precincts in the area.
Look, we know Western Sydney is home to some pretty epic playgrounds, to say the least. When you've got major players like Bungarribee, Fairfield Adventure Park, Lizard Log, and Blaxland Riverside Park, you'd think that the list of playgrounds out West couldn't get any better, but think again!
The playground at BEST is a vibrant, inclusive space that brings sport and play together. Think slides, swings, trampolines, climbing nets, bike paths, and basketball hoops, all designed to get kids moving and having fun.
We Love The Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub Playground
The Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub sits right next to the mega Blacktown International Sportspark precinct and has been pretty popular with active Sydney families since opening.
It’s part of the wider “Physical Literacy” area, which encourages kids (and parents!) to develop coordination, strength, and balance in a playful way. The equipment is all up and running, the landscaping has matured, and it quickly became the kind of place families love to visit for a full afternoon of play.
The playground is just one part of the $100 million BEST Hub, a world-class facility that combines exercise science, technology, and community wellness. Inside, you’ll find rehabilitation and allied health services, training facilities for professional and community athletes, and spaces dedicated to promoting physical activity for everyone - from elite players to weekend warriors.
But enough about the sports, what about the playground?
What's on Offer at the Physical Literacy Playground
According to the Mayor of Blacktown, Tony Bleasdale OAM, the playground is called Physical Literacy because it's been designed to "create an environment where people of all ages can come together to enjoy the benefits of being physically active in a green space. Physical literacy involves lifelong learning through movement and physical activity, promoting improvements in physical, psychological, and social and cognitive health."
Kids of all ages will love exploring the colourful playground that has loads to see and do, including:
- slides
- in-ground trampolines
- swings
- obstacle courses
- climbing nets
- basketball hoops
- a two-kilometre bicycle track
- soccer field
- cafe, picnic areas and more.
And parents, you can enjoy the well-shaded seating areas around the play zone so you can keep an eye on the fun while (at least attempting) to relax!
After all the playing, we recommend a bite to eat at Parklands Cafe, a casual spot with a seasonal menu that includes breakfasts, salads, sandwiches, pastas, burgers, steaks, pizzas, and of course, chicken nuggets for the kids.
Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub Location
The Physical Literacy playground at Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub is located at 81 Eastern Rd, Rooty Hill.
While you're here, check out the nearby Blacktown Disability Sports Centre, which opened in October 2025, expanding the area’s focus on accessibility and inclusive sport.
