The Woodlands: Largest Family Entertainment Zone in South West Sydney
Parents, prepare to lose sight of the kids for several perfectly supervised hours. The Sherwood Macarthur is expanding with The Woodlands, an enormous treehouse-inspired entertainment precinct set to become the 'largest family entertainment zone in the region'!
A Playground Worthy of the Sherwood Forest
Taking its cues from Robin Hood's legendary stomping ground, The Woodlands will be almost twice the size of The Sherwood itself. This is less humble neighbourhood playground and more mini adventure kingdom, complete with towering cube structures reaching up to 9 metres into the air.
Young adventurers will be able to scramble through interconnected climbing nets, explore sensory play areas and cool off in dedicated water-play zones. The plans also include basketball courts, arcade games and an outdoor viewing screen, giving energetic kids plenty of ways to burn through their seemingly endless supply of batteries.
Toddlers Get Their Own Hideaway
Smaller explorers will have a dedicated play space called the Spellbound Shack, where toddlers can join the Sherwood Forest fun without being accidentally swept into a stampede of enthusiastic 8-year-olds.
The precinct is being developed with playground specialist KOMPAN and designed to encourage climbing, movement, imagination and active play across a wide range of ages. The scale of the project is expected to make it one of KOMPAN's most significant Australian playground developments.
The Sweet Counter May Cause Negotiations
The Woodlands will also bring a new family-friendly cafe and a dedicated kids' sweets counter to The Sherwood.
The planned menu reads like a child's handwritten birthday wishlist, with warm doughnuts, lollies, loaded soft serves, gelato, snow cones and old-fashioned milkshakes joining a selection of light meals.
Birthday parties and group bookings will be part of the mix, although convincing the kids to leave after cake, climbing nets and loaded ice cream may require the negotiation skills of a seasoned diplomat.
Food for the Grown-ups
The existing Sherwood pub will remain a major part of the experience, serving classic crowd-pleasers including smashed burgers, schnitzels, steaks, tacos and share plates. There is also a kids' menu featuring cheeseburgers, nuggets, pasta and steak with chips, with a Dixie cup included for dessert.
Add the venue's massive sports screen, live entertainment and sprawling dining spaces, and The Woodlands is shaping up as a full family day out where lunch does not need to be inhaled beside a swing set.
