Planet Playhouse: Australia❜s First AI Play Centre Opens in Marrickville

Inner West families, there's a brand-new play centre heading your way, and this one is bringing some clever tech along for the ride.

Planet Playhouse is set to open at the new Marrickville Traders precinct in September 2026, adding another family-friendly attraction to the rapidly growing hub of food, entertainment and creative businesses. And from the early details, this won’t be your average indoor playground.

Meet Planet Playhouse Marrickville

Planet Playhouse is a new children's play centre being launched by restaurateur Jenny Qin, who is also bringing Chinatown Noodle Restaurant and Boba YO to Marrickville Traders.

The big point of difference? Planet Playhouse is expected to combine traditional play with AI and augmented reality games, and it's billed as Australia's first play centre to incorporate an AI element — how cool!

Exactly what those games and play zones will look like is still under wraps, but the mix of physical and digital play sounds particularly intriguing for tech-loving kids.

A New Indoor Play Option for Inner West Families

Marrickville already has a growing collection of indoor attractions for kids, and Planet Playhouse will add another option just in time for spring.

Details about the playground itself, including recommended ages, play equipment, session lengths and birthday-party options, haven't yet been announced. With an opening scheduled for September, we expect more information to drop soon.

Planet Playhouse is Part of the New Marrickville Traders

Planet Playhouse will call Marrickville Traders home, a huge new mixed-use precinct created inside a collection of heritage warehouses around Chapel, Rich and Shepherd streets.

The 12,000-square-metre site has been transformed into a destination for food, retail, entertainment, health and creative businesses while retaining plenty of its original industrial character.

That means a trip to the play centre could easily turn into a longer family outing. The growing tenant list includes fresh produce market Spread, Eat Ozzo, Chinatown Noodle Restaurant and Boba YO, while immersive adventure experience Heart of the Mountain is already open.

When Does Planet Playhouse Open?

Planet Playhouse is currently scheduled to open in September 2026. An exact opening date has not yet been announced.
