Gunyama Park Zetland: New Public Outdoor Space Taking Shape

There's something quietly impressive happening in Zetland. Gunyama Park is expanding – and not in a token way. Gunyama Park Stage 2 will add a generous 6,300 square metres of green space, extending the precinct already anchored by the award-winning Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre and its neighbouring synthetic football pitch.

Gunyama Park Zetland: New Public Outdoor Space Taking Shape

This next chapter leans into what families actually want from an urban park: room to exhale! Expect a larger open lawn edged with more trees, native planting and layered landscaping that feels considered rather than decorative. And the focal point you're all looking forward to: there'll be a new playground!

The new Gunyama Park Playground will cater to both younger and older kids with water play AND a skate park tucked into the north-west corner, giving teens and tweens their own legitimate slice of territory.

A First Nations learning circle and cultural season design elements will add depth beyond the swings and slides, embedding storytelling and connection to Country into the fabric of the space. It's the kind of thoughtful inclusion that elevates a park from pleasant to meaningful.

Practicalities haven't been overlooked. A new amenities building will include change rooms and accessible public toilets, while seating, picnic tables, shade canopies and barbecue facilities make it usable for low-key afternoons.

New-Look George Julius Avenue North

There's also George Julius Avenue North – a new tree-lined connection linking Epsom Road to the future Zetland Avenue extension – quietly improving access and walkability around the site.

When it's complete, Gunyama Park Stage 2 will be a cohesive, contemporary public space for families to swim, play, kick a ball, skate, picnic, climb, gather and linger – all within a few city blocks. We can't wait!
