Sydney Observatory Family Tours

Take a closer look at Sydney's scientific past (and present) with a family-friendly tour at the Sydney Observatory, designed for small groups with kids aged six and up.

Sydney Observatory Family Tours

Perched on the highest natural point in Sydney Cove, the tour begins outdoors, where families are introduced to early flag signalling, weather tracking and the Observatory's role in shaping the city's maritime history.

From there, you'll head inside the heritage building, climbing its narrow staircases before stepping into the domes to see both historic and modern telescopes up close. Along the way, guides break down big scientific ideas into easy, engaging moments for curious minds.

At the top, you're rewarded with sweeping harbour views and the chance to peer through a telescope to spot distant landmarks — making it equal parts history, science and hands-on discovery.

Running time is approximately 1 hour.

Visit Sydney Observatory for more details and to book tickets.
