Susannah Place Street Party: Celebrate Sydney’s Working-Class Past
On Saturday 11 October, Gloucester Street will come alive for the Susannah Place Street Party! A vibrant program of activities and entertainment will run throughout the day, honouring the community and the stories of Sydney’s working-class past.
Families can explore the historic houses and experience what life was like in the 19th and 20th centuries, and get creative with drop-in workshops, including chalk stencils, peg doll making, protest banner art, and communal embroidery.
Kids will love trying their hand at old-fashioned laneway games, while adults can enjoy curator talks and cooking demonstrations inspired by recipes of former residents.
Live music will add to the festival atmosphere of the day with performances from the Gramophone Man, pianist James Doig, and the Cameron Jones Trio.
Food and drinks will be available from local favourites, including The Australian Heritage Hotel, plus there will be CWA treats, and coffee and gelato carts.
Don’t miss this rare chance to celebrate one of Sydney’s last surviving rows of working-class terraces with a fun-filled day for the whole family.
