Magical Edible Garden

Are you ready for a magical food-inspired adventure?!  Join us these school holidays on a journey through the Garden to find the most amazing, delicious and surprising edible plants - for humans and other critters!  Play some fab food-games and then mix up some delicious ingredients and do some decorating to make your own completely edible sweet mini-garden to enjoy - YUM!

Inside the tide

Explore a marine dream of coral, kelp and coast with Inside the Tide! Step inside this spectacular world of aquatic delights in our new immersive exhibition. Combining the theatrical with horticulture, this exhibition creates a surreal, magical and playful display. Telling the stories of hero plants in three aquatic communities: Kelp Forests, Coral Reefs and Seagrass Meadows, wander through what feels like an under the sea experience and watch a pantomime come to life. Come face to face with giant sea creatures like the topiary blue whale, a chandelier of jellyfish or blue ringed octopus with interactive elements both children and adults will enjoy. While you're visiting, let your kids explore the kid's corner where they can discover life's enchanting characteristics in the ocean. Activities include First Nations fishing, seagrass yoga and much more.

Wind in the Willows

The amazing Mr. Toad and his bonny, boisterous pals will be heading to Sydney's Royal Botanic Garden to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Wind in the Willows. Led by Head Chief Rabbit, Ratty and Mole and Weasel, the children go on a hilarious adventure, giggling all the way, as well as join an exciting mission with the Rat Pack and Badger Battalion to rescue the little lost otter, Portly from the Wild Wood. This is interactive theatre at its best! So, pack a picnic, pack the kids and head on down to the riverbank for this rollicking promenade production.

Erth's Prehistoric Picnic

Australia has been home to some of the world's most unique megafauna and dinosaurs.  Our largest carnivorous dinosaur, Lightning Claw, used its hook-like claws to ensnare its prey. Thunder Birds, towering over two-metres tall, made their nests among the trees. This multi-sensory, puppetry-based experience is filled with creations inspired by Erth’s work with leading scientists and museums. Pack a picnic and join Erth, creators of incredible puppetry and performance for families, to experience some of these large, ancient creatures up close!

Aboriginal Biscuits and Bush Tea

Accompanied by a First Nation guide, children will experience a taste sensation with Indigenous bush foods and ingredients. They’ll discover how Indigenous foods were traditionally prepared and consumed and how these foods are still enjoyed and savoured in our cooking today!

Sunset Spotlight Tour

Experience the Garden and its fascinating night-life on this adventure by torch-light. The Garden is an oasis waiting to be explored! Wander the garden pathways and visit biodiversity 'hotspots' such as the ponds to look for nocturnal animals - some who fly in for the night, others who are long-term residents. Use your senses and some tech-gadgets to help locate animals. You may see Golden Orb spiders, Brush-tailed Possums, Microbats, Flying Foxes or Tawny Frogmouths.
