Saltbush at Sydney Opera House

Take an immersive and interactive journey through the culture of Australia's First Nations people in the live performance of Saltbush.

The saltbush plant is found in Australia and many First Nations countries and is used by diverse indigenous communities as food, medicine, and an agricultural farming product.

Using this shared idea, First Nations artists and collaborating Australian and Italian artists have created narratives, contemporary paintings, dances, and instrumental music, to create a powerful multi-sensory experience.

The Saltbush story is centered around the journey of two friends on foot as they cross myriad, diverse native landscapes - river country, an urban landscape, the desert, and the sea. Throughout the adventure, we discover the land, gain an understanding of it, and acknowledge how it influences our personal journeys.

Using sensors and infrared cameras, Saltbush allows young audiences to interact, play, and perform and provides a unique opportunity for parents to witness their children being a part of the show.

Award-winning multi-media artistry is combined with the work of acclaimed First Nations artists to present a compelling theatre experience for young people aged 4+
