Powerhouse Castle Hill Delivers Free Family Fun Every Day

Powerhouse Castle Hill, the North-West outpost of the Powerhouse Museum, is brimming with free activities for you and your family this Spring and Summer.

Open to the community on weekends from 10 am to 4 pm, Powerhouse Castle Hill is home to the Powerhouse Collection - over half a million objects of national and international significance, widely considered one of the most diverse collections in the world. Safe to say, your biggest challenge will be trying to fit it all in in one visit!

Full Powerhouse Collection on Display for the First Time

It's the first time in the museum's 140-year history that the entire collection will be housed in one location, and with items spanning history, science, design, art, technology, transport and space, you might need some help finding your way.

Thankfully, the Powerhouse offers a guided tour - the Collection Highlights Tour will unlock the secret stories behind the items and artefacts in the Collection. Running on the hour for 30 minutes, every Saturday and Sunday. Entry is free.  

Level Up With Collection Conversations 

For a more in-depth analysis of the incredible items on display, the Powerhouse runs Collections Conversations. Run by Powerhouse Volunteers, these talks will provide more detail and background for you and your family to understand the significance and backstory of each item.

Sessions are held monthly throughout spring and into summer. Entry is free. 

All aboard, Locomotive No. 1!

Young train enthusiasts will be interested to hear that one of the Collection's most significant items is Locomotive No. 1, which pulled the first passenger train in New South Wales between Sydney and Parramatta in 1855. It has been in the Collection for over a century, providing incredible insight into railway history in Australia and beyond.

Running every Saturday and Sunday, entry is free.   

Vacation Care Groups 

Did you know that Powerhouse Castle Hill runs a Vacation Care program every school holiday? Perfect for inquisitive minds, kids will go behind the scenes with a guided tour, exploring objects of historical significance across art, design, science and technology - they can even meet the Mars Rover!

Sessions run from 10.30 am - 12.30 pm and cost $11.50. 

Discover the Next Big Thing in Fashion 

Up-and-coming fashionistas will love Future Fashion - an inspiring showcase of Australia's emerging fashion talent. The exhibition features final-year work from students across four fashion institutions, highlighting their creative flair and entrepreneurial talent.

Running every Saturday and Sunday, entry is free.   

Fibro-Fantastic Model Homes    

Kids won't have to imagine what houses used to look like in this exhibition called Fibro Majestic, exploring post-war housing, design and construction.

Understanding Intelligent Interiors 

Keeping with the design theme, Powerhouse Castle Hill is showing an extensive furniture collection from the archives of post-war architect and sculptor Clement Meadmore. Kids and adults will learn what makes a piece of furniture design stand the test of time, such as Meadmore's much-celebrated steel and cord chair.

Running every Saturday and Sunday, entry is free.
