Don’t just see Vivid Sydney – step inside it at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. On two fun Friday nights this May, families can dance through an after-dark playground surrounded by stunning works from Angela Tiatia at Light Nights Silent Disco, set inside one of Sydney’s most iconic harbourfront buildings.

Pop on headphones, pick your playlist, and enjoy art in motion. With a dedicated family session, kid-friendly tunes, and food onsite, it’s a playful way to experience Vivid that brings the whole family along for the ride.

Light Nights Silent Disco at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia

Light Nights Silent Disco is set to transform the MCA’s Foundation Hall into a glowing, immersive dance floor across two Fridays this May. Grab some headphones, choose your channel and move through a multi-sensory world of sound, light and moving image.

With three live DJs curating simultaneous soundtracks and spinning everything from retro classics to current hits, you can switch tracks at the flick of a button and dance to your own beat.

This is not just a dance floor. It is a full artistic experience. Inside, large screens showcase works by celebrated Sāmoan and Australian artist Angela Tiatia, including Narcissus (2019), The Pearl (2021) and The Dark Current (2023).

These powerful video works extend the impact of Tiatia’s Vaiola, which illuminates the exterior of the MCA during Vivid. Together, they create a layered, moving environment where art and music collide in the best way possible.

Family-Friendly Sessions

A dedicated early Light Nights Silent Disco session from 5 pm to 7 pm is open to all dancers, especially families, with a high-energy DJ-led experience including a child-friendly music channel.

There are bean bags and lounge areas for relaxed seating, plus plenty of space to let loose on the dance floor.  The MCA Cafe and bar will be open throughout the evening, serving a family-friendly menu alongside drinks for the grown-ups.
