Autism-friendly Program: Children and families at MCA

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia has an inclusive autism-friendly program for children and their friends and families to engage them with art in a safe and supportive environment.

During this morning session, MCA Artist Educators will provide structured creative activities tailored to the needs of autistic children in an intimate setting. They will present a gallery tour of artworks from the MCA Collection: Perspectives on place, curated with sensory needs in mind, followed by a hands-on artmaking workshop.

Who can attend  

Children on the autism spectrum can enjoy this program with their friends and family.  

What to expect  

10.30 –10.45 am: Arrive at the MCA via the Circular Quay entrance. An MCA Artist Educator will welcome you and guide you to the National Centre for Creative Learning on Level 3. There will be a dedicated studio and Quiet Area for you to settle in and relax.

10.45 – 11.10 am: Take a tailored gallery tour of Autism-friendly artwork in the MCA Collection Perspectives on Level 2.

11.10 am – 12pm:  Enjoy a fun, hands-on workshop facilitated by MCA Artist Educators in your dedicated studio at the National Centre for Creative Learning.  

12 pm: The event concludes.    

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower  

Hidden Disability Sunflower Lanyards are recognized by the MCA. Wearing a Hidden Disability Sunflower lanyard discreetly indicates to people around you, including trained staff, that you may need additional support, time or understanding. The scheme allows people to choose to be visible when they want to be.
