Sydney families needn't travel far for a peaceful country escape because the quaint yet sophisticated town of Berry is just a 2-hour drive away!

Berry is on the South Coast of NSW and boasts rolling green hills, award-winning restaurants, heritage buildings and lots more. Whether you're a family who wants to unwind, explore, adventure, taste, shop or stay a little bit longer, you can do it all in Berry. Here are a few spots to stop off at and things to see on your family adventure:

1. Berry Produce Market

The Berry Produce Market is a fortnightly event, held on the second Saturday and fourth Sunday of every month from 8am to 2pm. You'll find fresh fruits and veggies, a large selection of plants, homemade cupcakes, specialty jams and preserves, soaps, herbal remedies and lots more. There is also the Berry Country Fair, also known as the Berry Markets, on the first Sunday of every month featuring over 200 stalls selling all manner of things. Sample your way through the freshest produce that Berry has to offer!

2. Berry Sourdough Cafe & Milkwood Bakery

Berry Sourdough Cafe is the eatery that is always recommended to Berry's visitors. Here you can get delicious takeaway coffee, cakes, breads and pastries from the bakery, enjoy a bite to eat in the cosy cafe, or head to the Picnic Shed to pick up some beautiful homewares or eat your takeaway on a picnic rug in the gorgeous gardens. This is a total experience for your senses and the perfect treat for hungry kids.

3. Berry Historic Museum

The Berry Historic Museum is well worth a stop-off, the perfect chance to soak up the local history. It's free of charge, and boasts an extensive collection of artefacts, memorabilia, photographs and records, and even a 'please, do touch' room for kids to get hands-on! Type on an old typewriter, check out uniforms from World War 1 and be sure to check out the kitchen, preserved in the style of an era gone by.

4. Berry Courthouse

The gardens of the Berry Courthouse is a top wedding venue, and well worth a stroll during your mini getaway. You'll see Manchurian pear trees, old Camellias, green hedges, granite pathways, fragrant blooms in the spring and stunning amber colours in the Autumn- a total feast for your senses. You'll definitely have to take a snap of the exterior face of the courthouse which is classic Greek revival architecture. Pure serenity!

5. The Treat Factory

The Treat Factory in Berry is the largest gourmet food outlet on the South Coast of NSW! Sample some of their massive variety of handmade chocolates, smell the delicious scents of confectionery in the production stage and marvel as some of your favourite foods are made right in front of your eyes. What child wouldn't be desperate for a stopover here?

6. Great Southern Hotel

After a day of exploring and adventuring, visit Berry's iconic family pub, the Great Southern Hotel, right in the heart of town. There's a kid's playground so you can relax with a drink while they play, watch the footy, enjoy some pub fare, listen to live music and soak up the experience of a truly Aussie country pub.

7. Silos Estate

At Silos Estate, there's delicious drops for mums and dads to enjoy, and alpacas for the kids! At Silos, you can taste premium wines at Cellar Door, have a gourmet meal at Silos Restaurant, say hello to the alpacas at the onsite alpaca farm, or stay the night at one of their boutique cottages.

8. The Famous Berry Donut Van

For over 55 years the Famous Berry Donut Van has been perfecting their warm cinnamon donuts. The van once toured Australia, bestowing its doughy goodness across the country, but now it calls Berry its permanent home. Be sure to stop off here for a mid-adventure pick-me-up.
