There’s nothing like the sweet and delicious experience of a family fruit-picking day! Get out into the fresh air and sunshine, and explore orchards full of ripe fruit ready for the picking. Fill a basket to enjoy for lunch or take some home and freeze them for later.
There are some beautiful places around Sydney to pick fruit in Spring (September-November) and here are our favourites:
Where To Pick Stone Fruit – Peaches, Nectarines, Plums
Canoelands Orchard
Where: 31 Canoelands Road, Canoelands, NSW (one hour’s drive north-west of Sydney)
When: Stone fruit season - late October/early November to mid-January
Cost: Adults $5 each to pick; Kids (5-15yrs) $3; Under 5s FREE; Family (2 adults and 2 or more children) $16 plus ALL fruit picked MUST be purchased at the per kilo price. Fun Tractor Rides are also available for $3, under 2s ride FREE.

Canoelands Orchard will harvest their sweet and juicy peaches and nectarines around mid-October, ripe for the spring picking. Meanwhile, they are growing strawberries for the first time which are expected to be ready we expect some time in September. The Orchard also grows plums and blueberries which are available later in the year. Please call ahead on weekdays. Follow Canoelands on Facebook for the latest info.
Bilpin Fruit Bowl
Where: 2093 Bells Line of Road, Bilpin, NSW (90 minutes north-west of Sydney's CBD.
When: Stone fruit season - mid-November until late February.
Cost: Adults $5, Children $3, Under 3s FREE.

Pick your own peaches at Bilpin Fruit Bowl is expected to start in mid-November. They also grow five varieties of apples, available for picking between January and March. Open weekends during harvest season between November and May for pick-your-own from 10am to 4pm.
Where to Pick Berries – Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries
Ricardoes Tomatoes & Strawberries
Where: 221 Blackmans Point Road, Port Macquarie (ten minutes north of Port Macquarie on the mid-north coast of NSW)
When: Berry season - all year round
Cost: FREE - just pay for what you pick

A visit to Ricardoes farm might form part of a larger weekend away, but it's worth the dedicated trip just for these plump, juicy hydroponic strawberries grown in a controlled greenhouse environment. Huntley Berry Farm
Where: Huntley Road, Huntley, NSW (near Orange, three-and-a-half hours' drive from Sydney)
When: Berry season - mid-November until May. Open Monday to Friday for picking when berries are available. Weekends October – April ONLY.
Cost: It is a not for profit farm - entry is a gold coin donation and you pay for what you pick.

Fields of juicy strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries, youngberries, boysenberries and more are just waiting to be picked. The season begins mid-November, so start planning your getaway to Orange! November really is the perfect time to visit, as each year they host their annual Family Fun Day – with market stalls, a free sausage sizzle, a free jumping castle, free tractor rides and more!

Where To Pick Mandarins
Watkins Family Farm
Where: 1006 Singleton Road, Laughtondale via Wisemans Ferry, NSW
When: Open season for fruit picking from 30th May. FARM NOW CLOSED UNTIL NEXT SEASON – WINTER 2021.
Cost: Entry is free, you just pay for the mandies you pick by the bucket-load!

With over 2000 trees, Watkins Family Farm specialises in citrus fruit and growing Tahitian limes, seedless lemons, cumquats, kaffir limes, Imperial mandarins and Hickson mandarins. They also have farm fresh eggs and honey from the hives. Head over on the weekends during harvest time between 10am and 4pm.
