Where to Pick Your Own Fruit With Kids This Spring Near Sydney

There’s nothing like the sweet and delicious experience of a family fruit-picking day! Get out into the fresh air and sunshine, and explore orchards full of ripe fruit ready for the picking. Fill a basket to enjoy for lunch or take some home and freeze them for later.

There are some beautiful places around Sydney to pick fruit in Spring (September-November) and here are our favourites:

Where To Pick Stone Fruit – Peaches, Nectarines, Plums

Canoelands Orchard

Address: 31 Canoelands Road, Canoelands, NSW (one hour’s drive north-west of Sydney)

Stone fruit season: Late October/early November to mid-January

Canoelands Orchard's tomato season has just ended and they'll soon have sweet and juicy peaches and nectarines ripe for the picking. Meanwhile, Canoeland’s fresh raw honey is available all year round! Open 9am-5pm every day except Christmas Day.

In addition to stone fruit, the Orchard also grows passionfruit and blueberries. Please call ahead on weekdays.

Cost: adults (over 15yrs) $5 each to pick; kids (5-15yrs) $3; under 5s FREE; family (2 adults and 2 or more children) $16 plus around $6 per kilo. Fun Tractor Rides are also available for $3, under 2s ride FREE.

Bilpin Fruit Bowl

Stone fruit season: mid-November until late February.

Pick your own peaches is expected to start in mid-November. They also grow five varities of apples, available for picking between January and March. Open weekends during harvest season for pick-your-own from 10am to 4pm.

Cost: $2.50 per person; under 3s go FREE.

Where to Pick Berries – Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries

Ricardoes Tomatoes & Strawberries

Address: 221 Blackmans Point Road, Port Macquarie (ten minutes north of Port Macquarie on the mid-north coast of NSW

Berry season: all year round

A visit to this farm might form part of a larger weekend away, but it's worth the dedicated trip just for these plump, juicy hydroponic strawberries grown in a controlled greenhouse environment. Oh, and if you can't get there – you can order their produce online!

Cost: entry is FREE. You only pay for what you pick.

Huntley Berry Farm

Berry season: mid November until May

Fields of juicy strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries, youngberries, boysenberries and more are just waiting to be picked. The season begins mid-November, so start planning your getaway to Orange! November really is the perfect time to visit, as each year they host their annual Family Fun Day – with market stalls, a free sausage sizzle, a free jumping castle, free tractor rides and more!

Where To Pick Mandarins

Watkins Family Farm

Address: 1006 Singleton Road, Laughtondale via Wisemans Ferry, NSW

With over 2000 trees, this farm specialises in citrus fruit and growing Tahitian limes, seedless lemons, cumquats, kaffir limes, imperial mandarins and hickson mandarins. They also have farm fresh eggs and honey from the hives. Head over on the weekends between 10am and 4pm.

Cost: entry is free, you just pay for the mandies you pick by the bucket-load!
