’Tis the season, one and all! Now that Christmas is well and truly done and dusted and the festive gluttony is over, we can start focusing on healthy activities to do with the kids. Enter, apples—and the abundance of natural bounty that’s just waiting to be picked from a tree near you.

Here’s where to get your delicious crisp, crunchy fix around Sydney.

Bilpin Springs Orchard

Good ‘ol Bilpin, eh? This family-favourite in the Blue Mountains is a gorgeous location for a spot of apple-plucking. This small commercial orchard is open for the public to pick apples as of late January (dates tend to vary each year.)

Pine Crest Orchard

Another Bilpin gem, Pine Crest Orchard is a mecca of gala apples—known for their consistency and great quality produce. There’s no entrance fee or bookings required, and most fruits cost around $4/kg. Bring your own non-plastic bags to do your bit for the environment, and watch the kids totally immerse themselves in the orchard—the season starts at the beginning of February.

Glenbernie Orchard

Offering an unrivalled pick-your-own experience, Glenbernie Orchard is designed for those who seriously desire to get their own produce for eating, cooking and of course—reducing food miles! This fourth generation family orchard is full of delicious, crunchy apples from January - April, and they offer tours for families that takes you through the orchard and of course the chance to pick apples! Be aware that bookings and closed footwear are essential.

Shields Orchard

Hoping to start their pick your own season at the start of February 2019, Shields Orchard is a small family based orchard that has been retailing their own fruit since 1955. There’s no entry charge, but they do ask that you call ahead if you plan on visiting, so they can ensure there’s always good quality fruit available and that your experience won’t be dominated by large crowds.
