’Tis the season, one and all! Now that Christmas is well and truly done and dusted and the festive gluttony is over, we can start focusing on healthy activities to do with the kids. Enter, apples—and the abundance of natural bounty that’s just waiting to be picked from a tree near you.
Here’s where to get your delicious crisp, crunchy fix around Sydney.
Bilpin Springs Orchard
Good ‘ol Bilpin, eh? This family-favourite in the Blue Mountains is a gorgeous location for a spot of apple-plucking. This small commercial orchard is open for the public to pick apples as of late January (dates tend to vary each year.)
Pine Crest Orchard
Another Bilpin gem, Pine Crest Orchard is a mecca of gala apples—known for their consistency and great quality produce. There’s no entrance fee or bookings required, and most fruits cost around $4/kg. Bring your own non-plastic bags to do your bit for the environment, and watch the kids totally immerse themselves in the orchard—the season starts at the beginning of February.
Offering an unrivalled pick-your-own experience, Glenbernie Orchard is designed for those who seriously desire to get their own produce for eating, cooking and of course—reducing food miles! This fourth generation family orchard is full of delicious, crunchy apples from January - April, and they offer tours for families that takes you through the orchard and of course the chance to pick apples!
