If you're anything like us and can't wait to get your foot in the door at the brand-spanking-new Powerhouse Museum (and 2023 is way too far away!), you'll be pleased to hear that images have emerged of what the new digs will look like.

When we first got wind that the Powerhouse Museum was moving to Parramatta back in 2016, we were equal parts bummed and equal parts excited. It's hard not to get excited when something brand-new and shiny comes across your path, but then the years rolled on and nothing happened so we grew weary. Now that the new-look Powerhouse Museum is well and truly underway (the doors to the old museum are shut for good, we promise), we can't wait to see what the 645 million-dollar makeover is going to look like.

The designs for the Powerhouse Museum 2.0 have been released and are a collaboration between French architect firm Moreau Kusunoki and Australia's Genton. The design teams in question were hand-picked by an international panel choosing from 74 designs submitted from 20 different countries - so yeah, they're pretty legit. The new Powerhouse design illustrations will be part of a 24-hour arts and culture precinct alongside Parramatta River and already one word juts out at us: contemporary.

The new-look Powerhouse Museum is very contemporary in its design, with striking rooftop greenery atop 2 sleek rectangular towers with criss-cross detailing, expansive windows, and dominating open spaces. Plans for the Powerhouse Museum 2.0 include 18,000 square metres of exhibition and public spaces, education laboratories, dedicated kids' play areas, exquisite exhibition halls, and the largest planetarium in Australia. We can't wait for 2023 to arrive!
