Western Sydney Lakes: Sydney❜s New World-class Waterfront Precinct

  • All Ages

Rumoured to be double the size of Centennial Parklands, a brand-new Western Sydney waterfront precinct is on the horizon to meet the growing lifestyle needs of Sydneysiders in the west - finally!

Formerly known as Penrith Lakes, Western Sydney Lakes is set to be a five-star lifestyle location complete with beaches, public lakes, a waterfront, and plenty of waterside dining—all just a stone's throw away from Western Sydney International Airport on the banks of the Nepean River at the foot of the Blue Mountains.

With Sydney set for a scorcher of a summer, part of the Western Sydney Lakes beach precinct is opening way ahead of schedule - we can't wait!

Jacqueline Vozzo, CEO of Western Sydney Lakes says, "The precinct offers a refreshing climate for people to play, work, relax and visit, with access to fresh water against a panoramic backdrop".

"Western Sydney Lakes is entering its next phase of renewal and will transform into a major tourism and recreation destination that will be locally loved," she adds.

Well, we’re all ears! It sounds idyllic.

Waterfront dining, resort-style facilities and native wetlands are all part of the Western Sydney Parklands plan.

The vision for Western Sydney Lakes is centred around the concept of the Lakehouse, a two-story pavilion complete with a pier, boardwalk, and a 'lake run', providing a safe swimming space for all visitors. In addition, plans are hatching to extend the Great River Walk, including constructing a 20-kilometre walkway and cycleway. Race you there!

Taking things even further, there's also a proposed Production Precinct in the works at Western Sydney Lakes. We’re talking film and TV studios, production stages, construction and design facilities, and a film school.

The cherry on top of an already very decadent-sounding cake? An 18-hole golf course and heliport—because why not?

Alongside bringing a sparkly new waterfront destination to the western Sydney area, the NSW government has said it will add a potential 5,000 direct jobs and almost 10,000 indirect jobs to the area.

Under a $1.7 million Minns government plan, a one-kilometre stretch of beach in Penrith is opening ahead of a stinking-hot summer in Sydney 2023!

Penrith Beach is set to open on 19 December 2023 as Sydney prepares for a record-breaking summer. Four months of patrolled swimming will be on the cards for Western Sydney residents at Penrith Beach, which will be located at Castlereagh Road, Castlereagh, just outside of Penrith.

According to Western Sydney Minister Prue Car, "Penrith Beach is a game-changer that gives the people of Western Sydney all the benefits of living in the west, with the addition of easy access to their very own beach."

"This is about fairness. For too long Western Sydney locals were neglected as the Liberals and Nationals focused all their energy on investment in Sydney’s eastern suburbs", she added.
