A massive new indoor snow park is set to open in Melbourne's west in late 2026, bringing real snow, fresh powder and a world-first Snowtunnel just 11 kilometres from the CBD, and it could be a game-changer for snow-loving families across the country — Sydney included!
Melbourne's Snow Tunnel is Coming to the West
Fresh Tracks, Forever
Australia, we need to talk about the snow situation. For most families, a proper snow day usually means a pricey alpine holiday, a long drive, a lot of gear, and at least one child asking if you're there yet even before you've left the driveway. But Melbourne's new Snowtunnel® snow park will bring real snow, fresh powder and an endless downhill run to the city, no mountain pass required.
The big drawcard is the Snowtunnel® itself: a giant rotating snow structure standing 12.5 metres tall and stretching 16 metres long. Inside, more than 600 square metres of perfectly groomed snow will continuously rotate to create the feeling of an endless downhill run. Basically, it's treadmill technology, but for people who would rather wear goggles and pretend they're in the French Alps.
The Snowtunnel® uses the brand's patented Endless Mountain technology, designed to give skiers and snowboarders an infinite slope without the chairlift queues, icy road trips or that one friend insisting they know a shortcut through regional Victoria.
Melbourne's Answer to an Urban Ski Resort
The Aussie-born Snowtunnel® brand has chosen Melbourne as the site of its global headquarters, which feels like a very Melbourne thing to do. Coffee, laneways, unpredictable weather and now, apparently, the future of indoor snow sports.
Snowtunnel® is the snow-themed equivalent of Urbnsurf: a destination-style experience brought into the city, minus the five-hour drive and the emotional damage of fitting snow chains in sleet.
Not Just For Powder Hounds
While experienced skiers and snowboarders can get their off-season laps in, the park is also being designed with total beginners and families in mind.
There'll be instructors on hand for everyone from nervous first-timers to confident carvers, plus on-site gear hire so you can arrive with absolutely nothing except a strong desire to look sporty.
A Full Snow Park For Families
Beyond the headline tunnel, the new snow park will include a dedicated snow play zone, daily fresh powder and plenty of space for families to get their alpine fix without leaving Melbourne.
Whether the kids want to build snowmen, slide around, or simply discover the particular joy of getting snow down their sleeves, this is shaping up to be a wintery win.
When Will Melbourne's Snowtunnel Open?
Snowtunnel is expected to open in late 2026 in Melbourne's west, around 11 kilometres from the CBD.
Exact opening dates, ticket prices and booking details are still to come, but one thing is clear: Melbourne is getting its very own snow day on demand, and frankly, the ski fields should be nervous.
In the meantime, visit Snowtunnel® for more details.
