The transformation of Newcastle's waterfront, aka Newcastle Foreshore, is gathering momentum, with an exciting new chapter unfolding at Foreshore Park. Designed with inclusivity, creativity and community at its heart, the Newcastle Foreshore Development is set to redefine how families play, connect and unwind by the harbour.
New Livvi's Place Takes Centre Stage at Newcastle Foreshore
Construction is now underway on a major new inclusive Livvi's Place playground and water play area at Foreshore Park in Newcastle East.
This ambitious project is poised to become one of the city's most beloved family destinations, creating a vibrant and accessible space where children of all ages and abilities can play side by side. As part of the broader Harbour Foreshore Masterplan, the development reflects a forward-thinking vision for Newcastle's shoreline — one that celebrates both community and connection to place.
Livvi's Place Newcastle Takes Centre Stage
At the heart of the project is Foreshore Park Livvi's Place, the centrepiece of the masterplan and a thoughtfully designed playspace that honours Newcastle's industrial, maritime and Indigenous heritage — and just wait until you see the new play equipment!
Delivered by the City of Newcastle in partnership with Regal Innovations, the new Foreshore Park Livvi's Place is expected to be completed by late 2026. Once finished, it will offer a welcoming environment where inclusive design and imaginative play come together in a meaningful way.
Play for Every Age and Ability
Located at the western end of Foreshore Park, the glamorous new playground will feature four distinct zones dedicated to toddler, junior, water and nature-based play.
Each area will be seamlessly connected by accessible pathways, shaded seating, sensory gardens and open green spaces. Quiet zones will provide calm retreats for children who need a break, ensuring that every visitor can engage comfortably and confidently.
Accessibility has been carefully embedded throughout the design, with features such as mobility device charging points, a sensory pathway and fully accessible amenities enhancing both comfort and independence. The result is a space that encourages intergenerational play, social connection and equal access for all.
A Tribute to Newcastle's Rich Heritage
True to its setting, the new Livvi's Place will showcase elements inspired by the city's identity. A striking whale-themed swing set and picnic area will honour the cultural heritage of the Worimi and Awabakal peoples. Elsewhere, an elevated "nuts and bolts" play structure will pay homage to Newcastle's industrial legacy, complete with an accessible ramp leading to the first level of the tower.
There's even going to be a dedicated water play zone! The water play zone will reflect the region's maritime history and coastal ecosystems, while inclusive features such as an accessible slide, sandpit, carousel and sensory pathway ensure the space is as engaging as it is welcoming.
Sunnyboy Park Brings New Life to the Precinct
Enhancing the experience further, the newly opened Sunnyboy Park kiosk and amenities building is already serving visitors to the foreshore.
Thoughtfully designed for accessibility and convenience, the facility includes unisex ambulant toilets, a parent's change room and a Changing Places facility. It also provides a welcome stop for refreshments, supporting the precinct's growing appeal as a destination for families and day-trippers alike.
A Bright Future for Newcastle's Foreshore
With its blend of inclusive design, cultural storytelling and playful innovation, the Newcastle Foreshore Development promises to become a standout destination on the NSW coast.
As construction progresses towards its late 2026 completion, anticipation is building for a waterfront space where community, heritage and joyful discovery meet.
Location & Opening Date
Newcastle Foreshore is located at 32 Wharf Rd, Newcastle East. The whole project is expected to be completed by late 2026. The Sunnyboy Park kiosk and amenities building is already open.
