We've got exciting news for little explorers and their families! The Hornsby Shire Council, together with the NSW Government, have just cut the ribbon on the incredible new Children's Forest in Galston—only the second of its kind in Australia, nestled within the beloved Fagan Park.
This fresh and innovative space is designed to spark curiosity and a deep connection with nature through its host of interactive features.
Fagan Park Children's Forest is Officially Open
From educational discovery pods and charming timber animal interactions to an immersive outdoor learning space complete with a Yarning Circle and a picturesque pond with stepping stones, Fagan Park Children's Forest is a wonderland of exploration. Plus, with lush grassed areas for picnics and accessible pathways, it's a day out that everyone can enjoy.
Crafted in close collaboration with local schools, this green haven not only offers a playful learning environment but is also the first park in New South Wales tailored specifically to foster children's relationships with the natural world. As Hornsby Shire Mayor, the Hon Philip Ruddock AO, emphasised, nurturing this bond is essential for cultivating a future of responsible nature stewardship.
"Growing up in Hornsby Shire myself, I still often cast my mind back to my childhood connection to trees, nature and Hornsby's unique Blue Gum and Turpentine Ironbark forests," he says.
Thanks to a generous $450,000 contribution from the NSW Government, Fagan Park Children's Forest is set to become a cherished educational resource for decades.
Hats off to the Council and the local schools for their vision and efforts in bringing this enchanting educational space to life. So, pack a picnic, gather the kids, and get ready to dive into a world of natural discovery at the Children's Forest—it’s an adventure not to be missed!
The Original Children's Forest in Australia
One of the first children's forests to open in Australia is in Western Australia at Whiteman Park Children's Forest.
The Whiteman Park Children’s Forest is a testament to what dedication and teamwork can achieve in environmental restoration. It started as bare dirt in 2001 and has since blossomed into a flourishing habitat, with the latest addition planted in 2018. It's a living, breathing showcase of nature's comeback story, making it a must-see for nature lovers and future eco-warriors alike.
Fagan Park Children's Forest Location
