Coles Beats Aldi & Woolworths For Best Hot Cross Buns In Australia

Did anyone notice how soon the hot cross buns started hitting the shelves this year? The Christmas mince pies were barely sold out when the hot cross buns starting rolling in but hey, we're definitely not complaining! Whether they're traditional, choc chip or (my personal favourite) apple and cinnamon, us Australians adore our hot cross buns, but which buns are best?

Consumer advocacy group, Choice have done the delicious work for us and tested all the hot cross buns from Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Bakers Delight, IGA and even Costco to decipher which hot cross buns are the best in Australia. And the winner is: Coles!

Coles has taken out the top spot for best hot cross buns in Australia when pitted against 10 other supermarkets and speciality bakeries in Australia. One of the biggest blind taste tests in the nation was conducted earlier this month and Coles seemed to have their buns in the bag as they won best hot cross buns in both the traditional and choc chip categories.

"The CHOICE blind taste test showed Coles won in both the chocolate and fruit hot cross bun categories, with Coles’ chocolate hot cross buns ranked number one at 84% and Coles’ traditional fruit hot cross buns at 80%. Both buns wowed the judging panel on appearance, aroma, texture and flavour, and beat some admirable rivals on price and value at $3.50 per six pack".
