It doesn’t matter who you ask, Taronga Zoo means something special for everyone. For my dad, it’s the elephant rides he enjoyed as a kid; for my 7 year old son, it’s the mischievous meerkats popping their heads out from their earthen homes; and for me, it’s the famous seal show.

No matter what age you are, there is definitely something for everyone at Taronga Zoo, and the animals are only just the beginning.

Wild Ropes

If you have ever wondered what it’s like to swing, glide or dangle from tree to treetop like a monkey, look no further. Wild Ropes is a ‘must-do’ high ropes course at Taronga. Courses designed for adults and kids (ages from 3 years +) catered for all energy levels, this action packed and adrenalin-fuelled adventure is the perfect opportunity for any spider monkey or superhero wannabe.

My children (7, 5 and 3 years old) loved spending time on the Possum and Koala course and, once they got the hang of it, I didn’t hear from them but occasionally saw a monkey or three hanging from the trees. I highly recommend this activity and encourage parents to even have a go. For bookings and ticket prices click here.

Show Time

Taronga has over 20 shows daily. Whether you are interested in learning about snakes, keen on meeting and listening to Zoo Keepers tell hair-raising tales of crocs or watch the playful seals perform tricks, you’re spoilt for choice. With over 4,000 animals in Taronga’s care, you will be amazed what you can learn about the ‘King of the Jungle’ down to the most gentle giants, the majestic giraffes and the best part, all of this is included with your zoo entry!

My hot pick is the Seal Show and for those that are keen to cool down on a hot day, sit as close to the front as possible. Don’t forget to visit Taronga’s Centenary Theatre. With live shows and short films running daily, it’s not to be missed. Checkout Taronga’s website for its theatre program click here.

Beware at the Tiger Trek!

Maybe it’s time to take a trip to exotic Sumatra. Explore a village and get up-close and personal to a Sumatran Tiger and not leave Taronga Zoo! The Tiger Trek is a fantastic opportunity to experience the origins of these fierce and beautiful creatures in their natural environment and observe their beauty from a close encounter experience.

Up Close and Personal

What better way to take a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes at Taronga Zoo. There are an assortment of animal encounters and experiences for the youngest animal lovers to the most knowledgeable David Attenborough wannabes. Feed a penguin, strike a pose with a Koala, or be a ‘Keeper for a Day’, just to name a few. These experiences are unique and promise to provide a fun-filled adventure for the wild at heart!

Download the App

Do yourself a favour and download the Taronga App. Not only will it track your whereabouts, it outlines times for shows, tour and ticket info and also the ‘Wild Squad Missions’ feature for kids. The kids will love this feature and it most certainly gets the whole family engaged with the Zoo.

Zoo Holiday Programs
