We love it when a menu serves up some unique dishes alongside the favourites—and that's exactly what Mockingbird does well. Sure, we might fancy avo on toast or a bacon and egg burger, but we might also fancy Chorizo Croquettes, Prawn Toast, Red Velvet Pancakes or Satay French Toast (and while we're on the subject of red velvet pancakes; they're served with fresh berries, compote, mascarpone and Persian floss. Drool!).

2. Papatya Cafe

This coastal gem in Marks Point serves up an epic all-day brunch menu that's bursting with local produce and contemporary twists on classic dishes.

We're talking Ottoman eggs with spinach, pickled chillis, herbs and yoghurt, or soft ricotta hotcakes with roasted strawberries, mascarpone, and meringue - yum!

The coffee is a delicious Will & Co blend to help save tired parents around the local area, day in, day out!

3. Onyx Espresso Bar

Onyx Espresso Bar is an ultra-popular hangout among locals or visitors looking for the best breakfast in Newcastle.

The space is welcoming and warm, with a flavourful breakfast menu plus a drinks menu that's bursting with juices, smoothies and decadent freakshakes. Our pick from the breakfast menu would have to be the Big Breakfast for a savoury hit served with all the trimmings or the Nutella French Toast for something (seriously) sweet. We're talking Nutella pocketed French Toast with honey-coated roast hazelnuts, fresh banana, ice cream and maple syrup. What a treat!

4. Merewether Surfhouse

It's one of Newcastle's biggest beachfront icons and is a bar, cafe and restaurant all in one. Safe to say, Mereweather Surfhouse does an absolutely roaring trade—serving some of the best breakfast in Newcastle and coffee to hungry locals and visitors.

Their menu is simple but fresh and delicious, featuring the likes of Avocado Toast, Sweetcorn Fritters, Eggs Benedict, Acai Bowls and more, alongside their Will & Co coffee, which is perfect for grabbing on the go before a morning beach stroll with the family!

5. Three Monkeys

Nestled on Newcastle's beloved Darby Street, Three Monkeys has been serving up the best breakfast in Newcastle to hungry locals for over 20 years.

The menu is positively huge, bursting with everything from sweet treats and light bites to eggs every which way and some ultra-unique breakfast dishes. The Moroccan Eggs and Breakfast Burrito really piqued our interest, alongside the Bubble & Squeak Reloaded, featuring a potato, pumpkin and corn rosti served with bacon, spinach, relish and aioli. Race you there!

6. Equium Social

Bursting with seasonal dishes that hero local produce and ingredients wherever possible, Equium Social brings a simple, wholesome vibe to the Newcastle foodie scene.

Their all-day brunch menu is seriously mouthwatering and full of quirky eats that you're sure to remember! Our faves include the Nuoc Cham Eggs, featuring three shallow-fried eggs with nuoc cham, sambal, herb salad and sourdough, or the Brothy Beans, which comprise braised butter beans in onion and stout ragu, kale, stracciatella, poached egg and sourdough. Phew! The hardest part will be what to pick.

7. Signal Box

Bringing a fun and vibrant dining experience to Newcastle, Signal Box prides itself on making just about everything from scratch, from sauces, stocks and pickles through to fresh juices, chai and sodas. 

Signal Box is part of the Newcastle Railway Station precinct with state-level heritage significance, and it's a gem of a place to enjoy some gorgeous food. 

The Spanner Crab XO Omelette is our pick—served with oyster mushrooms, XO sauce, chilli oil, coriander, cashews and crisp shallots. Wash it down with a coffee, and we reckon that's a pretty perfect-sounding brunch!

8. Blue Door

With locations in Honeysuckle, Mereweather and Hamilton, Blue Door Group is certainly a favourite spot for some of the best breakfast in Newcastle.

Their ethos is one that really champions a health-conscious, balanced menu that includes greens for breakfast, cold-pressed juices, and the world's first Vegan soft serve Coco Whip – exclusive to the Blue Door Group – in Newcastle.
