Check out Bondi Pavilion❜s New Dining and Retail Precinct

  • All Ages

If it seems like the Bondi Pavilion promenade has been boarded up and under construction for years, the wait to experience the flashy new hospitality and retail precinct will soon be over.

The massive Bondi Pavilion restoration and conservation project has been in the works since 2015 and punters can now get ready for a 2022 reopening that will see a spate of new businesses bringing a burst of energy back to the iconic seaside suburb.

The 90-year-old Bondi Pavilion holds pride of place down by the promenade and has long been the home of comedy festivals, ice rinks, Ferris Wheels, film festivals and a general meeting spot for people to gather and enjoy iconic Bondi Beach.

With such an impressive tenure, Bondi Pavilion has undergone somewhat of a facelift with contractors making the necessary refurbishments to keep her standing for another 90 years and then some. Locals and visitors alike will enjoy new amenities like toilets, showers and change rooms.

A lick of paint is not the only upgrade happening to the historic building. Bondi Pavilion will soon be inviting some exciting new hospitality and retail outfits to open their doors. After a hotly contested tender process, the masterminds behind Hinchcliffe House were awarded the right to open a brand-spanking-new restaurant as part of the Bondi Pavilion upgrade.

Aptly named Bondi Promenade, this hospitality venue will have it all, catering to the masses with a range of different dining options. From coffee and fresh-baked goods for that post-morning surf to delicious seafood bistro fare later on in the day, there will be something here for everyone.

"The food will be approachable, designed to share and offer something for everyone and every price point," said Bondi Promenade tenant Scott Brown in an official statement to Waverley Council.

"Breakfast will be light and fresh with health in mind whilst an all-day menu will encompass chilled seafood, freshly grilled fish, meat and vegetables served with minimal fuss, pizza-style flatbreads with light fresh toppings and scoops of seasonal fruit gelato on a summer's day."

For more of a cafe vibe, you’ll be able to head to Glory Days Bondi, which will bring together all of the scrumptious treats you’d expect from a classic beachside cafe. Think fresh produce, fragrant coffee blends and an unbeatable view. Local favourite Surfish Cafe will be returning to their spot after proudly slinging tasty fish and chips for over 15 years.

New Shops Coming to Bondi Pavilion

On the retail side of the Bondi Pavilion upgrade, clothing brand Between The Flags will be bringing their unique take on beachwear apparel to the seaside. Besides showcasing their beach supplies and apparel, the stores Managing Director, Briony Oayda says the team are excited to return to the Bondi Pavilion with a fresh new look.

"With the new build, our store designers have been given an exciting canvas to work from and we can't wait to share our new space with the world," said Ms Oayda when speaking to Waverley Council representatives.

"We are incorporating elements of The Pavilion, the beach and the Australian environment into the store design. We will also be working more closely with the community than ever before, collaborating with local artists and clubs to showcase Bondi's unique personality to the mix of locals and tourists that frequent Bondi Beach."

Once you’ve had your fix of fresh barramundi and purchased a colourful new pair of boardshorts, you’ll be able to explore all of the other delights coming to Bondi Pavilion. Open to the public, there will be an art gallery, a ‘Bondi Story Room’, a pottery studio and a courtyard.

So, with all of these awesome new developments coming to the Bondi shore, 2022 is looking up! Stay tuned to the Waverley Council website for further announcements on the Bondi Pavilion grand reopening.
