Best Of Melbourne❜s Children❜s Book Week 2018

This year's Children's Book Week theme is "Find Your Treasure" and you can do exactly that with fun bookish-themed activities for kids across the city between 18-25 August 2018. And Book Week isn't Book Week without dressing up, so make sure to scroll to the end of the post for some costume inspo! 

Museum Stories At Melbourne Museum 

Merging children's literature and museum collections, get lost in an interactive story time in the Pauline Gandel Children's Gallery before going on a museum adventure. There'll be a different Find Your Treasure theme for kids 0-5 each day, and dress ups as your favourite book character are welcome.

  • Tuesday 21 August - Australian Animals
  • Wednesday 22 August - Dinosaurs, with special guest Danielle Clode reading from her new book, From Dinosaurs to Diprotodons
  • Thursday 23 August - Fossils and Fauna
  • Friday 24 August - First Peoples

When:  20-24 August 2018, 11-11.30am 

Cost: Included with museum entry, which is FREE for kids and $15/adult

Children's Book Week At Brimbank Libraries 

One for kids up to 13, head to your local Brimbank Library for the Children’s Book Week Competition, where six short-listed book covers will be hidden around the library; answer a question about each for your chance to win a prize! (Entries close: Friday 24 August, 8pm). 

Kids 3-5 years will love Florette Storytimes, where a special reading of Anna Walker's Florette will be folled by garden collage craft. Each FREE session starts at 10.30am: 

Deer Park: Wednesday 22 & Friday 24 August 

Keilor: Wednesday 22 August

St. Albans: Monday 20 August

Sunshine: Wednesday 22 August

Sydenham: Friday 24 August

There will also be library Scavenger Hunts for kids 5-13 at 4pm, complete with a small prize for every participant at the following libraries:

The Children's Book Council Of Australia's Family Fun Day 

Don't miss this post-Book Week event on Sunday 26 August. There'll be a Books Illustrated pop-up bookshop, plus storytelling, performance, art activities and workshops at Abbotsford Convent, including: 

10:30 – 11:15am: Performance by Tony Bones of A Walk in the Bush by Gwyn Perkins
11:45 -  12:30: “Gallery for a Day – Art Detectives”
13:00 – 13:45: Workshop with author/illustrator Adam Wallace on writing and illustration
14:00 – 14:45: Storyteller Anne E Stewart will treat the audience to a feast of stories

Where: Abbotsford Convent Melbourne Museum, 1 St Heliers St, Abbotsford 

When:  26 August 2018, 10am-3pm  

Cost:    $5 per child payable at the “door” on the day – Adults FREE.
