If you have a handful of local playgrounds on rotation (which Sydney parent doesn't!) and they're starting to feel a little been-there-done-that, get ready to add a new one to your list: Banksia Play Space. The North Shore's newest playground is nestled in the heart of St Leonards and, from the looks of it, promises endless hours of outdoor fun for kids.

Banksia Play Space is part of the brand-new Wadanggari Park designed by Arcadia Landscape Architecture. The exciting new precinct will bring some much-needed green space to the area to keep up with urban growth. The 4,750 square-metre outdoor plaza features an extensive 'Great Lawn', a timber boardwalk built over a fern garden with circular hardwood 'Meeting and Resting Decks', a large 'Passive Nook' with a mix of urban style and sculptural seating and focus trees, plus a community recreation zone and the Banksia Play Space.

The Banksia Play Space will no doubt be the focal point of Wadanggari Park for Sydney kids and won't disappoint.

The design narrative of the Banksia Play Space has been created around the - you guessed it! - Banksia flower. According to the Arcadia team, "Reflecting the stages of growth of a banksia flower, the play space will include a pod climber for the pre-schoolers, a net tower for the primary school visitors and an art structure for teenagers and adults." Adorable!

Built over two sizeable levels, the Banksia Play Space will keep active kids busy with:

  • steppers
  • infant pods
  • climbing bridges
  • climbing nets
  • viewing decks
  • play logs
  • slides and more!
