The Faces of 2025: Meet This Year’s Archibald Prize Finalists and Winner

The 2025 Archibald Prize finalists have been unveiled, spotlighting 57 compelling portraits that capture the essence of Australia's vibrant cultural landscape.

Selected from 904 entries, this year's collection features a diverse array of subjects, including prominent figures like Nicole Kidman, Miranda Otto, Aaron Chen, Jackie O and Katie Noonan, as well as a significant number of self-portraits and depictions of fellow artists.

Perth-born artist Abdul Abdullah clinched the $3,000 Packing Room Prize with his evocative portrait titled No mountain high enough, portraying his close friend and fellow artist Jason Phu astride a horse against a mountainous backdrop. This marks Abdullah's seventh time as an Archibald finalist.

For the first time ever, there are more finalist works by women artists than men in each of the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize competitions.

The Archibald Prize exhibition will be on display at the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 10 May to 17 August 2025, before touring regional galleries across Australia. The winner of the prestigious $100,000 Archibald Prize will be announced on Friday, 9 May.
