La Renaissance Patisserie: A Slice of Paris in the Heart of Sydney

Tucked inside a heritage sandstone building on Argyle Street, La Renaissance has been a Sydney patisserie icon since 1974, based in The Rocks since 1992. It's the kind of hidden gem that turns a simple pastry stop into a proper outing, and now families in the Inner South can get in on it too, with a second location at the Waterloo Design Centre on Young Street.

Croissants, Courtyards and Family-Friendly Charm

Spend a couple of hours in France at Sydney's La Renaissance Patisserie cafes.

Every item on the menu at La Renaissance Patisserie is handmade using fresh ingredients under the eye of pastry chef Jean Michel Raynaud, a proud member of Relais Desserts, the elite international association of the world's best French pastry chefs.

Kids will love picking out almond croissants or a ham and cheese croissant with shredded ham and bechamel baked right in, while grown-ups can eye off the Monet, a white chocolate mousse cake layered with lychee jelly, raspberries and a coconut base.

Order at the counter, then wander through to a Parisian-style courtyard for cakes, pastries, baguette sandwiches and hot savouries, all set among heritage-listed sandstone buildings.

It's an easy, walkable add-on after strolling The Rocks Markets, local galleries or a walk over from Circular Quay.

The Waterloo venue is set inside the PYD Building on Young Street, with easy parking and a spacious enclosed seating area, near the Danks Street precinct. Dig into the same handmade cakes and pastries, or indulge in a proper lunch spread built for grazing with sausage rolls with flaky, golden pastry, daily salads that change with the season, and warming soups perfect for a Waterloo winter pit stop.

Grab a table in the enclosed seated area and let the kids tuck into a pastry while you catch up over coffee from The Little Marionette.
