Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre: Inside the Brand-New Facility
Get those swimmers ready, Sydney! The long-awaited Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre is making a splash with a whopping $61 million redevelopment, and families are invited to dive in from November 2026!
After several years behind construction fences, the much-loved Canterbury pool has been completely transformed into a state-of-the-art aquatic and fitness destination. With sparkling new swimming pools, an outdoor splash park for the kids and plenty of facilities for grown-ups, this impressive new centre is set to become a favourite for family swimming adventures.
What's Inside the New Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre
The grand opening will feature a whole day of FREE family fun, including the chance to try out the brand-new facilities.
A Brand-New Splash Park for Kids
One of the biggest family drawcards is the new outdoor children's water play area, featuring zero-depth splash play that's ideal for younger kids who aren't quite ready for the big pools.
It's a welcome addition for families with toddlers and preschoolers looking to cool off during Sydney's warmer months, with plenty of opportunities for little ones to enjoy some splashing fun.
A Heated 50-Metre Outdoor Swimming Pool
For families who love a proper swim, the impressive new 50-metre heated outdoor pool is ready for action.
The eight-lane pool can also be divided into two 25-metre swimming areas, offering flexibility for different swimming activities. Whether you're working on your laps or enjoying some pool time with the older kids, there's plenty of room to dive in.
There's also grandstand seating overlooking the outdoor pool, so spectators can watch the action from the sidelines.
A Heated 25-Metre Indoor Pool
Swimming weather isn't always guaranteed, but that's no problem at Canterbury.
The new 25-metre heated indoor swimming pool makes year-round swimming possible, giving families a comfortable place to practise their strokes even when the weather outside isn't playing along.
A Warm-Water Program Pool
The centre also features a dedicated 20-metre indoor warm-water program pool, designed for gentle exercise and aquatic programs.
The warmer water provides a comfortable environment for low-impact activities, making it a welcome addition for swimmers who prefer a more relaxed pace.
Swimming Lessons for Kids
Got a little fish in the family? Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre will also offer the CB Swim learn-to-swim program, catering to children at different ages and swimming abilities.
From beginners finding their confidence in the water to older children developing their technique, the program will help young swimmers build essential water safety skills.
A Brand-New Gym and Fitness Studios
Parents, there's plenty here for you, too!
The redevelopment includes a premium, fully equipped gym with dedicated personal training spaces, plus a spacious group fitness studio offering classes including Les Mills and Zumba.
There's also a new reformer Pilates studio with 13 beds, giving fitness-loving locals even more ways to work out.
A Relaxing Sauna
After a swim or workout, grown-ups can head to the centre's new sauna for a little well-earned downtime.
The sauna is available to visitors aged 18 and over, with separate swim-and-sauna admission options.
A New Café and Outdoor Spaces
All that swimming works up an appetite, so families will be pleased to hear there's also a new on-site café.
The redevelopment includes landscaped outdoor areas and a communal lawn, offering families additional space to spend time together between swims.
Accessible Facilities and Allied Health Services
The new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre has been designed with accessibility in mind, featuring accessible swimming facilities and upgraded changerooms.
Dedicated allied health suites are also part of the redevelopment, expanding the centre's focus on community health and wellbeing.
