Garden Highlights

Tsubaki Yama: Camellia Mountain

One of the Gardens' newest highlights is Tsubaki Yama, a breathtaking camellia collection set within a Japanese-inspired landscape. More than a decade in the making, this internationally significant garden showcases rare and beautiful species, including varieties that are now extinct in the wild. Keep an eye out for the remarkable ginkgo “survivor tree”, grown from a seed of a tree that endured the Hiroshima atomic bombing. It is a powerful and moving addition to this serene space.

Ornamental Gardens

The Ornamental Gardens bring together a series of beautifully designed spaces that bloom in every season. The Formal Garden near the entrance features three elegant terraces inspired by European design, filled with colourful plantings, climbers and bulbs. The Residence Garden is a favourite for its seasonal transformations, from rich autumn foliage in shades of gold and crimson to delicate cherry blossoms in spring. Brunet Meadow and Garden is a hit with families, thanks to its shady trees, open lawn and picnic facilities.

The Southern Hemisphere’s Largest Rock Garden

The Rock Gardens are one of the most impressive features of Mount Tomah and the largest of their kind in the southern hemisphere. This dramatic landscape showcases plants from across the region, including waratahs, proteas and striking puyas, alongside tranquil pools filled with ferns and aquatic plants.
