Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine & Family Activities at the MCA

Uncover photography's ability to document and invent with Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine at the MCA.

Featuring over 100 artworks, this exhibition is Hiroshi Sugimoto’s largest to date, chronicling over five decades of his practice. Time Machine includes the artist’s key photographic series and various subjects from seascapes, theatres, and architecture, to waxworks, that blur reality and perception.

Family Day: Hiroshi Sugimoto

Don't miss Family Day: Hiroshi Sugimoto on 5 October to experience the art and creative spirit of this internationally renowned artist. Specially created for families of all ages, you can learn, play and join family-friendly activities throughout the day, including hands-on making sessions, in-gallery adventures led by MCA artist educators and enlightening all-ages guided tours.

Spend time in Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine, drop into the Family Space: Light Lab, don't miss the Silent Disco and look out for special magical guests. Some programs take place in the exhibition and require under 12s to be accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket*. All other activities are free, no booking is required.

Family Space: Light Lab

Have a light-bulb moment during a visit to Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine! Families of all ages are invited to immerse themselves in a light studio and ‘paint with photons’ at the Family Space: Light Lab, inspired by Hiroshi Sugimoto's Opticks photographic series. Experiment with refracted light, create layered compositions and capture your light creations with your phone. All other materials are provided.

Light Lab is a free, drop-in activity space suitable for all ages. It is open on weekends during the exhibition and every day during the spring school holidays: 30 September – 11 October 2024.

After a big day at the MCA, don’t forget to refuel! Drop by the new MCA Cafe at Tallawoladah, located on the Ground Floor with scenic views of Sydney Harbour.
