Visit Taronga Zoo's African Savannah This Winter Holidays!

Winter School Holidays are almost upon us and Taronga Zoo has had some very exciting arrivals waiting for guests with its African Savannah opening just in time for the break. A gateway to Africa in the heart of Sydney, African Savannah lets guests to come eye-to-eye with Giraffes, Zebras, Meerkats, Fennec Foxes and Lions all while learning about the conservation challenges facing these iconic species.
With a Roar that can be heard more than 8km away, guests will be able to hear Taronga’s latest arrivals, Lions Lwazi and Ato, before they see them. But with these impressive creatures in the foreground and an amazing view overlooking a Savannah landscape and sparkling Sydney Harbour behind them, guests will find it hard to look away from this amazing sight.
Joining the Lions in the African Savannah is Taronga’s tower of Giraffe including resident giraffes Jimiyu and Zarafa and adorable new arrivals Kito and Ebo, a mother and calf who recently joined from Taronga Western Plains Zoo. They can be found living alongside Zebras in a multi-species exhibit known as The Waterhole, while nearby, guests can get up close to Taronga’s pair of Fennec Fox and mob of Meerkats who have moved into brand new exhibits.
