SYO Summer School: An Inspiring Program for Young Musicians.

The SYO Summer School 2026 is the perfect way to kick off the new year with fun music education for kids! This annual program brings together over 400 of Australia’s brightest young musicians for an intensive, inspiring week of music-making, collaboration and creativity.

From budding beginners to advanced players, every student will find their place in this exceptional program designed to support their journeys to musical excellence! Participants will learn from expert tutors and conductors, make new friends, and experience the joy of performing in a real orchestral setting.

The SYO Summer School welcomes primary and high school students who play orchestral instruments – whether they’ve just picked up a bow or are preparing for their next AMEB exam. With a range of tailored streams, students are grouped by age and ability so everyone gets the most out of their musical journey.

SYO Summer School Programs

• Summer School - No audition required. Open to all students who’ve been learning an orchestral instrument for at least one year, up to AMEB Grade 6. 
• Orchestral Explorers - A hands-on introduction for curious 5 - 9 year olds who haven’t yet started training with an instrument
• HSC Summer School - For students entering Years 10 to 12 in 2026, this stream supports the HSC Music curriculum. 
• SYO Summer Symphony - Audition required. Led by renowned conductor Dr Joanna Drimitis, this advanced program brings together orchestral strings, brass, woodwind and percussion students at AMEB Grade 6 to AMusA level. It’s ideal for experienced players aged 14 - 18.
