Kids at the Conservatorium of Music School Holiday Workshops 2025

Open Academy at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Structured workshops are based on the Orff-Schulwerk approach, Dalcroze and Kodaly methods and will include activities such as singing, imitation, movement, playing tuned and untuned percussion instruments, improvisation, story-telling and guided listening activities.

Participants only need to attend one workshop, as the material will be repeated the following day.

Kids at the Con Holiday Workshops for 3 - 4 years

These youngsters will explore the musical concepts of pitch, beat, and tempo through creative play and a range of unconscious learning activities. Listening and motor skills will be engaged through echo singing, movement, imitation, playing percussion instruments, and musical games.

This workshop will run for 50 minutes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by tutor Simona Green. Parents/guardians are encouraged to sit in this workshop with their children to listen to the activities and recreate them at home. The material presented in this workshop is similar to that of the weekly Red classes.

Kids at the Con Holiday Workshops for 4 - 5 years 

Activities in this workshop will be similar to the workshop for 3 - 4-year-olds, but at a slightly faster pace and targeted to match the higher levels of the older participants. More complex rhythmic activities and listening exercises will be presented, including call-and-response singing and musical signal recognition.

This workshop will run for 50 minutes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by tutor Simona Green. Parents/guardians are not required to sit in on this workshop, but attendance is encouraged. The material presented in this workshop is similar to that of the weekly Orange classes, providing a great opportunity to test our program!

Kids at the Con Holiday Workshops for 5 - 6 years

This workshop runs for 3 hours on Wednesdays from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm with tutor Adi Firth.

Activities include:

• Pitch and rhythm work using tuned and untuned percussion instruments.
• Active listening activities.
• The opportunity to make their own instrument, if time allows.

The material presented is similar to that of the weekly Yellow classes.

Kids at the Con Holiday Workshops for 6 - 10 years

This workshop runs for 5 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 2 pm with tutor Adi Firth

Activities include:

• Pitch and rhythm work using tuned and untuned percussion instruments.
• Active listening activities.
• The opportunity to make your own instrument.

The material presented is similar to the weekly Green and Blue classes.

There will be two short breaks for morning tea and lunch (participants must bring their own food). Parents/guardians are welcome to drop off their children in the morning and return at 1.45 pm for a 'mini performance' of the children's activities from the workshop.

*Please note that students only need to attend one workshop as the material presented is the same each day.
