Moon Festival at Sydney Observatory
Sydney is set to sparkle under the glow of the full moon this spring, with Sydney Observatory hosting its very first Moon Festival from Tuesday 30 September to Thursday 2 October 2025.
Moon Festival at Sydney Observatory
For three magical nights, the Observatory grounds will transform into a celebration of culture, community, and celestial wonder. Families and festivalgoers can enjoy a lively program of lion and dragon dances, lantern parades, live music, and Vietnamese street food, all set against the city’s best view of the moon.
The program will include free lantern-making workshops led by acclaimed visual artist Truc Truong, giving little (and big) hands a chance to create glowing treasures to light up the night.
On the final evening, Thursday 2 October, the main celebration takes centre stage with performances, a lantern parade, and a live DJ set by Asian-Australian artist Small FRY.
Of course, the star of the show is the moon itself. Guests will get the rare opportunity to view it through the Observatory’s powerful telescopes, adding a truly cosmic element to the festivities.
Workshops are free to join, while the Thursday night main event is also free but ticketed — so be sure to reserve your spot early to avoid missing out.
