Big news for Bay Run regulars – there's a brand-new $3.8 million swimming spot on the way, and it's set to make a serious splash.

Plans for the Callan Park Tidal Baths are full steam ahead, with the NSW Government and Inner West Council locking in a funding agreement and signing off on a Memorandum of Understanding to bring the project to life.

This sunny addition to the Iron Cove foreshore will give joggers, cyclists, families and park-goers another reason to linger. Think accessible pathways and ramps, a generous fixed jetty, a pontoon, and a shark net, so you can focus on cooling off without a care.

With nearby favourites like Leichhardt Oval and King George Park just a short stroll away, Callan Park Tidal Baths are the perfect spot to dip before or after your Bay Run loop.

The Callan Park Tidal Baths were first floated (pun intended) in the Parramatta River Masterplan back in 2018, and now the Minns Labour Government has committed $2 million to help turn the vision into reality.

After years of planning, testing and community consultation, final approvals were granted by the Inner West Local Planning Panel in late 2025. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with a target opening for the 2026/27 summer season — hooray!

Features of the New Tidal Baths

Designed to blend into the harbour foreshore, the baths will create a net-enclosed swim site where people can cool off, relax, and enjoy water access safely right within the city.

The project includes thoughtful features for accessibility and enjoyment, aimed at making the tidal baths an inviting spot for families, walkers, joggers, and swimmers alike:

  • An accessible pathway and ramp for easy entry
  • A fixed jetty and pontoons for lounging or entering the water
  • A protective shark net for safer swimming
  • A setting integrated with the Bay Run and surrounding parklands.
