A New Japanese Izakaya Has Opened In Sydney With A Self-Serve Sake Bar

Miji Bar and Grill
Miji Bar and Grill boasts a curated menu of mouthwatering dishes.

Bringing the buzz of Tokyo’s vibrant streets to Miller Street, Miji Bar & Grill is the place to be for creative Japanese-inspired eats and an array of self-serve sakes and wines. Clearly, this isn’t just another Izakaya! Miji is one of the first in Sydney to introduce the self-pour drinks concept, with a sleek wall of 24 carefully curated wines, sakes, cocktails, and mocktails, all at your fingertips. Perfect for those who like to try a bit of everything and find the perfect pairings!

But it’s not just the drinks that have got foodies excited. Head Chef Jacob Lee (ex-Flying Fish), who sharpened his skills at the two-Michelin-starred Mingles in Seoul, has crafted a creative menu bursting with flavour and elevated with creativity and style, launching with delicacies like King Crab Legs, delicate Kingfish Crudo, sizzling Sukiyaki Beef Hot Pot, and Rainbow Trout with Yuzu Butter and Kanimiso Okonomi.

Be transported to the streets of Tokyo.

Step inside Miji and be transported straight to the vibrant hubs of Tokyo. Bold neon lights, floor-to-ceiling windows, and authentic Japanese signage – even a replica Shinjuku Arch – set the scene for an unforgettable dining experience.

Whether you’re grabbing a drink and snack at the bar or settling in to indulge in the full meal, Miji offers a buzzing vibe with a taste of Japan’s Izakaya culture. Translated to stay drink place, informal Izakaya bars are dotted across Japan, creating a welcoming haven for diners craving a warm place to sip sake and savour delicious snacks. Inspired by Owner Ian Ng's visit to a Japanese grocery store where customers could pour their own sake, Miji delivers tradition and innovation in one exciting fusion.
