Free Community Day & Art Workshops This Weekend in Kensington & Kingsford
Join a free Community Day that brings together art, conversation and creativity, celebrating New Monumental, a new public art series featuring artworks by Monica Rani Rudhar, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran and Reko Rennie.
The afternoon will include a Welcome to Country, artist talks and free hands-on art workshops for kids and families, inspired by the artworks.
Celebrate New Public Art at a Free Community Day in Kensington and Kingsford
Sydney families are invited to get creative and celebrate a vibrant day of art, culture and community at a FREE Community Day across Kensington and Kingsford this Saturday 20 June.
Marking the completion of three striking new public artworks by acclaimed artists Monica Rani Rudhar, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran and Reko Rennie, this family-friendly celebration features free hands-on community workshops for kids and adults, giving everyone the chance to make something beautiful while discovering new art in their neighbourhood.
A Celebration of Art, Community and Creativity
Taking place across Kensington and Kingsford, the Community Day celebrates three major new public artworks that bring colour, culture and creativity to the local area.
Families can spend the afternoon exploring the precinct and joining free creative activities. The program will commence at 1 pm at Scape Kensington with a Welcome to Country and project introduction, followed by an artist talk with Monica Rani Rudhar at 1:30 pm at Scape Lachlan.
Free Creative Workshops
Rangoli Workshop with Gauri Torgalkar

Discover the beauty of the traditional and much-loved Indian art of Rangoli in this free hands-on workshop led by Sydney artist Gauri Torgalkar. Create a colourful community installation, drawing on patterns, colour and storytelling, inspired by Monica Rani Rudhar's new public artwork, Home Under My Feet and Bells in My Ears.
Gauri's practice explores the meeting of Indian cultural traditions and Australian landscapes, and this hands-on workshop offers a joyful opportunity to learn about rangoli while making art together. The workshop is suitable for all ages.
Air Clay Frangipani Workshop with Jayanto Tan
3:30 pm to 4:30 pm
Scape Kingsford
Kids and grown-ups can get their hands messy and create a delicate frangipani from air clay in this engaging, family-friendly workshop with artist Jayanto Tan, as he leads you through a fun, creative activity celebrating imagination, storytelling and connection to place. Inspired by the frangipani motifs found within Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran's new public artwork, you can create your own beautiful floral sculpture to take home.
Suitable for all ages, this creative session is a lovely way to celebrate art while making something special to take home. No experience required.
