Calling all kids ready to explore the plant world up close. Budding Botanists is a hands-on session that turns young visitors into botanists as they head out on a guided garden walk, discovering the secrets of leaves, flowers and plant adaptations. A simple experiment brings science to life before kids create their own herbarium pressing to take home. A creative and educational experience set among the colours of autumn. Suitable for ages 5 – 12 years with an accompanying adult.

Public Walking Tours

Step into the season with a guided Public Walking Tour led by a passionate volunteer. This relaxed tour showcases autumn highlights throughout the Garden, along with insights into its unique history and the birdlife that thrives here. It is a lovely way to slow down, stretch the legs and enjoy the changing landscape.

Tours run for 1 hour and 15 minutes and are designed for individuals or small groups.

Astronomy at Mount Tomah

As night falls over the mountains, the Garden becomes a window to the universe! This special Astronomy at Mount Tomah event features insights from astrophysicist Ángel R. López-Sánchez, sharing stories of planets, galaxies and cosmic wonders.

Guests can step outside for a guided stargazing session and view the night sky through powerful telescopes with the Northern Sydney Astronomical Society. With a grazing box and drink included, this experience blends science, nature and a touch of magic under the autumn sky. Recommended for ages 12 years and over.

Autumn is one of the most beautiful times to visit the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah, and there is even more to explore while you are there.

Wander through Tsubaki Yama: Camellia Mountain, an internationally significant collection of camellias set within a serene Japanese-inspired landscape, and take in the Autumn Magic as hundreds of deciduous trees turn brilliant shades of gold, amber and red between March and May, creating one of the Garden’s most beautiful displays. Families can also take their time on the Self-guided Walking Trails, soaking up panoramic views and fresh mountain air.

Sitting 1,000 metres above sea level, the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah is the highest botanic garden in the southern hemisphere, set within a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. It is a place to explore, stretch little legs and enjoy a relaxed day surrounded by nature’s changing colours.
